About this listen
Once upon a time, a girl found a magical puppy, and her life was never the same again.
Nina Popoca needs help.
So, so much of it.
The only place she can find that help is on a sprawling ranch in Colorado. A place hiding more than a community filled with magical creatures trying to live their lives in safety and in peace. A village that might hold the answers to questions she’s had her entire life.
And if that ranch is owned by her best friend’s hunky cousin?
There are worse things in the world than having to live right by Henri Blackrock.

still my favourite author

Loved Nina's lack of filter and her willingness to admit the things she is feeling, even through the doubts. And I loved meeting all the weird and wonderful magical creatures that may just live among us.
Many thanks to Victoria Villareal and Bradley Ford for their superb narration. They had me listening well into the night with their excellent voices.
LOVE....YES!

Absolutely loved Mariana’s new book

I finally gave up at the 16 hour mark because I realised that what I hoped for and perhaps expected from these characters and this storyline just wasn't going to happen (or it would have already).
Perhaps the last 6 hours held the best bits but somehow I don't think I will regret not persevering.
That said, the narrators were excellent choices but the FMC was dare I say it, just too nice, polite and placating for my liking and the connection between her and the MMC lacked a tension/spark that builds which is usually so evident in Marianas' main characters. I also didn't really feel like other characters were woven into the story enough as I would have liked to have known more about them.
I know that this is a different genre to her other books but this unfortunately just fell very flat for me no matter how much I willed myself to stick with it.
This won't stop me from reading future MZ novels by any means but I'd recommend going into this without pre-conceived expectations - maybe that's where I went wrong!
Odd one out unfortunately - DNF
