A great story let down by poor audio and narration.

I challenge you to sit through five minutes of this muffled audio and ridiculously breathy narration.

Performance drove me mad

This was one of my favourite childhood books that I chose to revisit. It’s still a wonderful tale and I enjoyed it. I found the narrator’s voice incredible irritating, specifically the way he dragged out the ending of words, particularly the last word of every sentence, and made them sound airy eg. “Jaaaaackeeeeee.” I stopped and started a few times because I couldn’t stand it, and it took me the better half of ten hours to stop being irritated by it. I don’t think I would listen to another audio book where this technique is adopted.

Love the book, hate the reader

The story is brilliant and Straub helps steer King’s often maniacal ideas toward a beautiful world and a brilliantly developing story. It’s a shame that the narration is so hard to get past. Obviously time might be a factor, but the narration is overly dramatic filled with strangely emphasised syllables and contours of phrases, compared to oddly more restrained character dialogue. If I didn’t love this story I wouldn’t have made it far.

Epic

I first read the book in 1988. It was my instant Stephen King novel. Audible had given it to me again with a great narrator. I love how he reads this fantastic book.

Love Frank Muller performing Talisman

Loved this audio book - the stories fantastic and Frank Muller brings it to life. I'm just wondering if/when Audible will make The Black House available as I'm finding it hard to get in audiobook format in Aus.
