This bittersweet novel by Jenny Han recounts the summer of Belly's 16th birthday. When she and her family arrive at the beach house that June, her longtime summer pal, Jeremiah, appears standoffish and awkward in her presence. And his older brother Conrad - her secret crush - seems distant and cold.

Critic Reviews

"Romantic and heartbreakingly real ... the beautifully written novel ... perfectly blends romance, family drama, and a coming-of-age tale - one that is substantially deeper than most." ( Library Journal)

Fun and light to listen too

Although I have enjoyed listening to this book I found the back and forth chronological shifts confusing.
Other than that it was an easy listening.

Great coming of age story

Any additional comments?

This book was very good. The author takes you from the present to the past to give you insight on all the characters and how they grew up together.

Come on Conrad you know you want Belly

Would you consider the audio edition of The Summer I Turned Pretty to be better than the print version?

I loved both the print and audio versions. This is a book I can re-read or listen to it over and over again.

Good book

As a plot : i found the story was good with very relate-able characters and good dialogue
As an Audio book it was good but the narrator is so SLOW and i got bored at the middle of the book until i fast forward it into 2×

but you can read it if you like a bed time story teller

Book was annoying

Reader did well but the book is just not that great. Pretty disappointed. I had to force myself to finish it. I turned it off many times from annoyance.

Great story, horrible narration

I really enjoyed the story, but had a really hard time finishing it on audible. The person who narrated it did it in such a way that it sounded like an adult doing a horrible impersonation of a teenager. The main character, Belly, is not a bad character, but I almost couldn’t stand her just because of the annoying tone of voice that the narrator used throughout the book. I am definitely interested in reading the other books that are follow-ups to this one, but I won’t be listening to them on Audible if it is the same narrator. I can’t do it.

My goodness, this is terrible.

This book sets a terrible example of healthy relationships for young readers. It’s difficult to root for any of the young characters, as they’re all too self-absorbed and distracted being absolutely hateful to each other. Vapid and embarrassing.

Loved it

Loved it. Great story, great narration. Only complaint and not sure if it’s on purpose or if maybe because I listened on audiobook so maybe I missed something... but Taylor’s visit makes it seem like it’s the present day but then later there’s a flash back where it makes it clear it’s not present day and was the previous summer or 2 summers ago.. Unless it was 2 visits but I don’t think so. That kept throwing me off but otherwise it was a great book and great listen.

Wonderful Story

It took me a while to get into the book, I put it down for a while then once I picked it up again I finished half of it in one day. I loved the story and it made me feel melancholic. A wonderful way to reminisce on summer days and childhood crushes.

I love this series so much.

I don't know how many times I've read this book since it was published but it feels right to re-read and re-listen to this series every spring when I know summer is just around the corner. I love the narrator's voice, her voice is how I imagine Belly's voice to be and she does bring the story into life with her narration. I totally recommend this audio book and I hope you'll love it as much as I do.

Abosolutley amazing

In my opinion this book is absolutely amazing it’s so addicting and I would recommend this book to anyone. I think the author Jenny Han has done an amazing job of capturing a young teens life and child hood in one book. Although the book is amazing I am not exactly keen on the voice of the narrator and the voice is slightly annoying and she reads a bit to slow for my taste with this all aside I cannot wait to ready the rest of the series!!
