Publisher's Summary

The compelling new novel from the author of the best-selling Chocolat.

Vianne Rocher has settled down. Lansquenet-sous-Tannes, the place that once rejected her, has finally become her home. With Rosette, her 'special' child, she runs her chocolate shop in the square, talks to her friends on the river, is part of the community. Even Reynaud, the priest, has become a friend.

But when old Narcisse, the florist, dies, leaving a parcel of land to Rosette and a written confession to Reynaud, the life of the sleepy village is once more thrown into disarray. The arrival of Narcisse's relatives, the departure of an old friend and the opening of a mysterious new shop in the place of the florist's across the square - one that mirrors the chocolaterie and has a strange appeal of its own - all seem to herald some kind of change: a confrontation, a turbulence - even, perhaps, a murder....

Love love love.

Was so excited to see another book in this series and once again Joanne didn't let me down. This book seemed to come when I needed it most. Coincidental or everyday magic?

Loved it!

Loved revisiting these characters and meeting the new. That the author herself was reading also did not disappoint!

More for effect than the story

Great imagery, but lacking in storyline. Perhaps reading this would be better than an audiobook.

Enchanting ...

Equally enchanting and moving. A poignant window into loss and love’s return. Harris is a masterful storyteller.

I regret reading this book, the magic is gone :(

Well, that was bad😣
I can’t believe Joanne did this to me, the reader who has listened to Chocolat and The Lollipop Shoes so many times that I could quote them word for word. Seems like it’s not the main character Vianne, but the writer who’s lost her faith and magic. I’m sorry to say that this book seems extremely rushed, meant to get sales purely😔
The writing is chaotic and so repetitive that it made me question the fact it was Joanne Harris who actually wrote this book. It doesn’t even look like a Chocolat sequel as lots of the characters’ qualities and descriptions are horribly conflicting.
I listened to the book twice, having decided to give it a second chance, but - no. I love the writer’s books, she’s always been my favorite, but I wish I’d never read Strawberry Thief.
And lastly, please let Juliet Stevenson do the narration. Her voice and style are amazing and she’s definitely responsible for 40% of the charm and mystery of Chocolat and Lollipop Shoes🙈

Please don't read your own books.

The story is passable but was ruined for me as it was read by the author. Most of the time I had no idea who was talking as she used the same voice for every character. It's a shame when a book is ruined by its own author. If you must, buy the book in paper or kindle and avoid the audible version, I almost returned the book a dozen times, but made it to the end. Your mileage may vary

Loved this visit to Lansquenet sur Tannes!

It says a lot about how much I enjoyed this audiobook that I listened to it all over just a couple of weeks. Usually it can take me many weeks or even months to get through a whole audiobook but with this one I was wandering about the house with my headphones on while I was cooking the tea or washing the dishes! I loved the mix of intrigue and mystery so familiar from the other Chocolat books. This time we hear the inner thoughts of Vianne's 'special' child Rosette, a girl who rarely communicates except through animal noises and occasionally in her shadow voice. An incomer to Lansquenet sur Tannes is welcomed by many of the community which is somewhat surprising given Morgane's profession is a tattoo artist. And even more surprisingly, Vianne is the one who does not make her welcome, who sees her as a threat. Monisieur Le Cure is wracked with guilt over past secrets which threaten to come to the fore following the death of Narcisse. A novel about loving and letting go, this is another compelling and magical tale from Joanne Harris.

A must read for all parents

This story just got better and better. Underneath the sweetness of the ongoing chocolate shop story is the dark, bitter, sad, and heart rendering reality of life & past misdeeds and cruelty. However perhaps we all hold on to misconceptions of ourselves which make us dislike ourselves even causing mental health issues. For anyone behaving badly because of the fear of losing someone you love, keep reading. If you're about to lose a child to the world of Uni or has already moved away and you miss them terribly like I do, finish this story. Ultimately the rich, soothing, delicious and comforting chocolate of life wins through ie love. You only ever borrow your children and they must go but like the wind they return bringing fresh sounds and smells to enrich our lives. This is also a story about redemption and forgiving ourselves our trespasses. This was my favourite book of all Joanne Harris and really struck a chord so thank you dear writer I salute you.

Least enjoyable Joanne Harris book yet.

Nothing like the suspense or imagination of other books by Joanne Harris that I have read/listened to.

A visit with old friends

Once again Joanne Harris takes us to a sleepy village in France and we visit with old friends, share a cup of Chocolate and watch as they call the winds of change into their lives. I've been a fan of her books for a long time and enjoyed watching the characters grow with each instalment, this book is no exception.

May have been better to read this.

I did quite enjoy this book, but it was quite slow. I had difficulty differentiating the various voices, but not sure whether that might have been the idea. I just think it may have been better to read the book rather than listening to it.

Wonderful

Joanne Harris has done it again, apparently this is the 4th in the Chocolat series but I must have missed the second and third. It didn’t seem to matter. This was a wonderful, clever story. I got totally wrapped up in the characters. Loved it. Only comment, sorry JH, but her voice is really annoying !

Excellent!

So lovely to be in the world of Vianne Rocher once again! A lovely, poignant, magical tale about change, redemption, acceptance.
I think the author’s reading enhanced the Audible experience. I couldn’t stop listening. Sit back and enjoy!
