About this listen

What would you do if your son became a stranger overnight?

Tired of their cramped London apartment, Aaron and Meera relocate to the idyllic village of Little Crake along with their two children, Noah and Uma. The new cottage looks out over the many miles of woodland beyond. It’s a far cry from their tiny flat and the perfect fresh start.

Until fifteen-year-old Noah wanders alone into the forest. For three days, a search party combs the woods. Aaron braces himself for the worst, convinced his son is lost forever. Until he finds Noah alive, hiding in the hollow of a tree. It feels like a second chance.

But why doesn’t Noah remember those three days in the woods? And why are there strange cuts slashed across his torso? Why did he cover himself in mud and hide away in an old oak tree?

Once a studious and gentle boy, Noah becomes a troublemaker at school. He withdraws from his family, sleepwalks at night, and creates eerie sketches of Dark Valley Forest. Aaron tells himself that Noah just needs time to readjust. He’ll soon be himself again. But Meera believes otherwise. This new version of Noah is harsh and cruel—a complete stranger.

A mother knows when something is wrong with her child. Aaron may be deluded, but she knows the boy who came back from the woods is not their son.

I had a few attempts at starting this book, I struggled getting through it. The narrator represented the male characters well, I think it needed a woman to bring the women’s roles to life.
The story was odd and not what is normally listen to.

Wasn’t my thing

The Stranger in Our House by Sarah A. Denzil was an unexpected listen. The story had me hooked from the start, with Shane Zaza delivering a strong and engaging performance throughout. While it initially hinted at a supernatural direction, the narrative ultimately took a more psychological turn — which I found even more intriguing.

The twist unfolded gradually, and although I began to piece things together towards the end, it didn’t take away from the impact of the reveal. The ending was powerful and bittersweet, with real emotional weight due to the casualties involved.

What stood out most was how the story explores the human mind — how logic can so easily be overridden by fear, belief, or desperation. It leaves you reflecting on just how fragile our grip on reality can be. Highly recommend for fans of psychological thrillers with a dark, emotional edge.

A gripping and thought-provoking listen

I’m can’t say the swear word, but as it ended I said that exact phrase out loud. I was skeptical in the beginning cos I don’t like scary stuff - but I kept going - the way it’s written - to me - is unique and genius - I googled if it was a true story or not.. well done.. dark, slightly disturbing - but not too bad for a “sensitive viewer” type person. This was very well written - again in my opinion. I can’t call it enjoyable because that’s not the emotion I felt listening. I felt like I couldn’t stop, I wanted to know what happened next, the spiritual stuff was on the edge - so not too scary I’d put the book down - just intriguing enough that I kept listening. A review I read kind of gave it away slightly - but for me personally, I wouldn’t have read it without that review, it made me feel like it would be ok and not give me nightmares. I’m gushing now I know - but man - you’re a great author. I think that was a very very good book!! Well narrated as well, well done all involved!!

I’m wish I could say “F Word - that was a good book!” In this review

I enjoyed the mystery and creepiness of the story. I liked trying to guess how it would unravel and I liked the different perspectives the writer used. The narrator did an excellent job.

Enjoyable and creepy

When I read the summary I didn’t realise it was supernatural which I’m not that keen on, that’s the reason I only gave it three stars. I really enjoy this writers other books though.

There's something magical about Sarah's work. She transports me like no other. The amount of time, background information and passion she puts into each creative work is outstanding! Shoutout to Audible studios for another great voice talent to bring her piece to life!

She's done it again

This was an ok listen. I didn't mind the writing style of diary entries, but the story was a bit far fetched and there could have been much more character development. It fell a bit flat. The ending I also didn't enjoy.

this was an ok listen, bit far fetched but that's the style

This is an easy holiday read, not too annoying even though it is a bit dragged out and characterisations are somewhat unrealistic.
Narration is easy to listen to.

Okay for a trashy listen

I really got into this up until about 75% through, when you start to see what's unfolding. could have been really good, just wasn't a fan of the ending . could be a good movie/show

Started out good ended average
