Editorial reviews

Jack London is known for characters that pit brain against brawn, often amid trying tests of physical endurance. "The Story of Keesh" is no exception, with its daring namesake protagonist, the teenaged son of a legendary, but deceased, Eskimo huntsman. The 13-year-old Keesh decides to follow his father’s footsteps, delivering a copious bounty of meat for his hungry tribespeople. The diminutive Keesh arouses suspicions from tribal elders, who accuse the young boy - surely incapable of such hunting prowess - of witchcraft. Performer Jim Roberts’ simple but fluid efficiency matches the spartan landscape and tribal justice that defines Keesh’s polar plight. Ultimately, Keesh must convince his elders that when it comes to the hunt, the mind is a weapon no less powerful than the spear.
