About this listen

Ophelia and Thorn arrive at the observatory of the Deviations, an institute shrouded in absolute secrecy and overseen by a sect of mystical scientists who secretly conduct terrifying experiments. There, they hope to discover truths that will halt the destruction and death and bring the world back into balance.

Now that the distrust between them has been overcome, they love each other passionately. However, they must keep their love hidden. Only in this way can they continue their journey toward an understanding of the indecipherable code of God and the truth behind the mysterious figure of the Other, whose devastating power continues to bring down entire pieces of arks, plunging thousands of innocents into the void.

After three fantastic books, I felt that this book got caught up in its own philosophy a bit too much, and lost sight of the original delightfulness of the series. It was long, aimless and heavy, and did not give any satisfying end to the major plot points. Narration as always on point.

Unfortunately too convoluted to be enjoyable

This book made me wonder if I was looking into the mind of someone going into psychosis. Every chapter has a twist. The story has developments that lead no where. Entire plot points that just fizzle. Ophelia regresses. Miscommunication abounds. Insecurity and ruminating thoughts permeate. Very much an exploration of her inner world. Was a slog to get through. All other characters were 2 dimensional and seemed quite disposable as reflected by the ending. If there was a way to get my credit and time back I’d request it.

Disappointing end to an excellent series
