Publisher's Summary

The fourth book in the enthralling series following the fascinating lives of Beth and Alex Macgregor, their family and friends.

It is 1745 and the rebellion that the Jacobites have worked towards for so many years is finally under way. Prince Charles is in Scotland gathering the clans and they are rising, ready to fight and if necessary, die for him.

At his prince’s command, Alex, trapped by his own success as a spy, reluctantly remains in London with Beth. His clansmen, meanwhile, head north to join the rebels. Desperately unhappy, the couple try to convince themselves that their role is crucial to the cause, but hope that Charles will relent and allow them to leave London and join him. Their wish is granted, but not in the way they expect, and soon they find themselves fleeing for their lives.

In the meantime the Jacobites are gathering strength and heading south, winning decisive victories along the way. It seems that Prince Charles Edward Stuart and his followers will finally achieve their desire to regain the throne of Great Britain for King James. But the Duke of Cumberland is determined not to let his father be toppled from the throne by a bunch of heathen savages, and returns from Flanders to lead the Hanoverian army against them. Soon Beth and Alex find themselves at the heart of one of the most brutal civil wars Britain has ever seen, one which will put both their lives and relationship in danger, and which will change the history of Britain forever.

Join the rebellion of Beth, Alex, and the Macgregors as they fight for justice and freedom in the Jacobite Chronicles.

Top story

With each new book I fall more in love with the characters. Not just the main characters but the people that are there in the background. This book made me laugh and it also made me cry

Bawled like never before....

The Jacobite Chronicles is one of the best series I've ever read. It takes alot to make my cry when reading a novel, but The Storm Breaks had me in tears at least half a dozen times to the point where I needed to fix my make up....I think that's called ugly crying and a 10/10 rating! Immediately starting the next book in line. Thank you Julia Brannan for your exceptional writing style!

Giving us an many facts of this dreadful time in Scotland’s history. A must read or listen especially for those interested in this time in Scotland’s history. Can’t wait for book 5 , though I have read he books several times, I look forward to them been brought even more to life in audiobook

Heartbreaking

The events leading up to and including the Battle of Culloden. In devastating detail the author brings to life the plight of the Scottish people in their attempt to reestablish their king to the throne of Britain.

You ruined this series

I hated hated what you did to this book. HATED I own over 500 electronic books. But I will not read any more of your books. If I wanted to hear non fiction history I would read the brutal words. Thais was the Most DEPRESSING non fiction I have ever read you killed your main characters. You should mark that you want to right non fiction

I can't believe I listened to all 4 books.

I can't believe I listened to all 4 books just to listen to this awful ending. No happy ending here. Just looked on Amazon and there are 2 more books. If I want to know the rest of the story I will need to buy the other books. It's not easy for me to read a book because my eyes are old and tired. NOT happy right now....

sad story

I am enjoying this series. This book made me cry. I have fallen in love with the characters that when something happens, it makes me upset. It is kind of hard to explain at work why I am crying though.

Fantastic performances

Will M. Watt's performance in this book is brilliant. When he is reading the portion of the Battle of Culloden, it is absolutely captivating. You can feel the passion and the pain from the characters. Truly breathtaking. So good.

Not as slick as the other books in the series

A good story but rather choppy and not as slick as the previous Jacobite Chronicles books. Hideous narration with some of the worst Scottish accents I’ve ever heard in an audiobook (imagine an over the top Radio 4 or SNL Outlander parody) just killed this book for me to the point where I’m probably not going to finish listening.

Excellent story and narration

Very engaging story, following Beth and Alex through the glory - and horror - of the Jacobite rising of 1745-46. The depiction of both the joy and the terror plaguing the Jacobite army is well-described and, when telling the story of Culloden and its direct aftermath, the story well explains the emotions and drags the reader through them too. Well worth a listen as it brings a vast array of emotions during the story: enjoyment, love, grief, anger and horror.

Narration continues to be excellent - the duo works very well together.
