About this listen

TROY

Sometimes I want to punch that smirk off Atlas McCallister's pretty face.

He's cocky. A troublemaker. A pain.

And, unfortunately, my stepbrother.

We've been fire and kerosene since our parents got together, and to keep from exploding into fistfights, we've used challenges, dares, and bets to battle out our differences.

Our past bets have been a little inappropriate—scandalous, even—but Atlas's latest bet has gone too far.

Do I really believe if he loses, my straight stepbrother is gonna mess around with a guy? And not just any guy: me, his rival and nemesis?

Not a chance.

But if he's so confident he's gonna win...well, my big stepbro must not know me as well as he thinks...

ATLAS

I love getting under Troy's skin.

Mr. Former Prom King. Mr. Heartthrob. Mr. Infuriatingly Perfect. Messing with him is too easy. Too fun. Maybe that's why I'm a little obsessed with him.

Our latest bet is the perfect way for me to test the bisexual waters, and once I dive headfirst into the deep end, I don't want to stop.

With Troy. My stepbro.

It was supposed to be just a little fun, yet with each touch, I like him more than I should. It wasn't supposed to go this far. Now I want Troy to be all mine.

But what we're doing has bigger consequences than our little step bet, and when the stakes are this high, is it worth gambling our hearts when we know this is a game we both could lose?

This is the first book in the Peach State Stepbros Series. It can be listened to as a standalone.

Trigger Warning: The Step Bet is a steamy romance, but one of the secondary characters struggles with addiction. This may act as a trigger for some listeners.

Troy and Atlas don’t hate each other, but they do exasperate each other. Ever since Atlas’s dad cheated on his mother and married Troy’s mother, Atlas has resented his father a lot. It doesn’t help that his dad continually tries to needle him by always favouring his new step-son, Troy. Troy has been let down by his own dad who walked out on his family and by his drug-addicted brother who only makes contact when he wants money. Troy and Atlas are at college together and when Troy starts to fail a class, Atlas wages a bet with Troy to motivate him to study. Things turn sexual and the two step-bros find the support they need from each other.

The bet is a ludicrous excuse for (gay) Troy and (straight?) Atlas to get romantic, but apart from that I liked everything about this story. Troy and Atlas were great guys, Atlas’s dad was a well-deserved baddie, and their college friends were fun. There’s plenty of the usual Riley / Devon collab steam and I enjoyed watching all the plotlines resolve into a satisfyingly happy ending. 🎧 Michael Dean is always a fave narrator and I loved his performance here!

Big-time daddy issues for romantic step-brothers!

I live the narrator. He does an excellent job of giving each character their own voice. The story was great. I love just how much they love each other.

Love, raw and honest

Ok, I’ve been eyeing this off for a bit so I finally bit the bullet. Troy and Atlas are just the right amounts of damaged and spicy. These two authors really know how to write the spicy stuff.

I love this narrator. Kinda wish it wasn’t just the one guy though.

Spicy!

good story, amazing narration however, why do I have to be reminded every 5 seconds they are step brothers. I get it. I enjoy the trope but I don't need to be told every paragraph.

amazing narration
