About this listen

Ghostly whispers, shocking secrets, and a Pomeranian on the loose …

England, 1941: Evie Harris doesn’t believe in ghosts—not even when she spots a glowing figure outside her bedroom window in the quiet village of Crofter’s Green. But when the same eerie spectre is seen by Lord Hawthorne, tied to a long-buried family scandal, even Evie starts to wonder if the past is haunting Hawthorne Manor.

Before she can investigate, Lord Hawthorne is found dead at the bottom of his grand staircase. An accident? Not likely. When the glowing figure begins tormenting Lady Gwendolyn, Evie rallies the Homefront Sleuths to unravel the manor’s secrets.

As the sleuths dig deeper, the twists keep coming:

  • A furious daughter returns for the reading of the will.
  • Priceless antiques vanish from the estate.
  • And Lady Gwendolyn’s strange behavior hints at dangers far beyond ghostly hauntings.

With hidden passageways, family feuds, and wartime schemes at every turn, the sleuths must race to uncover the truth. Is the danger truly from the dead—or the living?

The Spectre of Hawthorne Manor is a delightfully cozy mystery full of ghostly intrigue, village charm, and sly surprises. Perfect for fans of Agatha Christie and T.E. Kinsey — scroll up and One-click now!

It’s so good to be able to step back in time. Whenever there’s police involvement I have to stop and remind myself that there’s no internet nor any mobile phones to hasten up police procedures. Bonzo is a little gem barking his way into each story and helping the diverse group of friends who pool resources to unravel the crime scenes presented.

I’m really loving this series.

Very enjoyable cozy with a lot of good information about living in a rural area in WW 2 England. The main characters are interesting and positive, each contributing to the group friendship and different skill sets. I am listening to all available in the series. 😊👍👏👏

Excellent! Murder with historical WW2 social info!

I loved the cozy thriller plot. SPOILERS AHEAD. But the writers felt the need to bludgeon you with any sub plot, trying to make it believable by repeating it eg Nigel’s boss tells Nigel’s uncle (how likely is that) his better opinion of another young officer, then when Nigel is given a supposedly bound-to-fail case to investigate we’re told 2 or 3 times this is an example of trying to oust Nigel.
I don’t mind improbable in these kind of stories but why on earth would Evie think a fake ghostly apparition had anything to do with her time in France in the SOE?!
And really almost no one had a telephone let alone a part-time barmaid living above the pub. And the debris after bombs in suburban London would surely have been brick not concrete?

Such potential but full of annoying plot holes and niggly errors
