Story
After a year of fighting across three different lands, Dante and Blays have finally brought Gladdic to justice - and in the process, they've unleashed a horror beyond all reckoning. The enemy is known as the White Lich. He is ancient. He is immensely powerful. And Gladdic believes he will soon enslave all of Tanar Atain. Their only chance to defeat him is to strike fast, before the lich has regained his power. But attacking him directly would be suicide.

Story
Dante and Blays have forced Gladdic from the Collen Basin. But the victory might be only the first battle in a much larger war. With the land on the brink of starvation and politically fractured, Dante and Blays scramble to secure Collen's food, borders, and allies. Before their work is done, rumor arrives from Mallon. The enemy is mustering for another attack. Even if Collen can weather the coming storm, there's no guarantee their independence will last out the year.

Story
Dante and Blays have a single hope of victory: the Spear of Stars, the long-lost weapon that may be capable of killing the lich. There's just one problem. Though they've learned the spear is real, they've also learned the nine parts of the weapon are guarded by the gods themselves. And they have no intention of handing over their prize. Alone in a strange realm, with no friends or allies, and a growing list of enemies, Dante and Blays' task looks doomed. Yet, they're the last line standing between the lich and the destruction of their whole world.

Story
Young Cally is an apprentice within the most unusual order of sorcerers in the known world: the only one that forbids its members from using their powers to kill. Despite his lowly status, Cally's chosen by the Master of the Order to join a delegation to see their allies the Lannovians. The meeting will be historic: 60 years ago, the Order's enemies attacked them with a host of demons, forcing the Order to trap the monsters inside their own citadel and seal it shut with impenetrable wards. The trick worked so well the Order hasn't been able to get it back open since.

Cally and Rowe have scoured the demonic wights from Narashtovik. But during the war, Cally learned he can no longer be part of the pacifist Order that raised him to be a sorcerer. The pair has traveled south, seeking the true copy of The Cycle of Arawn - the artifact Cally believes can restore proper rule to Narashtovik. There's a few problems with this plan, though. For one, nobody's seen the true copy in decades. And another, in these lands, possessing a copy of the Cycle is rewarded with a quick trip to the hangman.

Now a student at Wurthaven, Will is confronted with the truth of the present. The powerful magic embodied by wizards like his grandfather is but a distant memory. Though the practice of the current day is timid and uninspired, Will needs the knowledge that’s preserved and managed by the college. Story
Here is today's lesson; heroes die. It’s been 15 years since the Orcs were defeated. Fifteen years since a new king rose from the battlefield. Fifteen years since Illian knew the horror of war. Fifteen years of peace are about to end. Something is coming. Shadows gather. Whispers of rebellion have reached the king. Darkness stirs beyond Illian’s borders. Beyond the mountains, Dhenaheim has lost a quiet war. Refugees pour into Illian, bringing suspicion and unrest. For Doran Heavybelly, Dhenaheim's war means facing a personal tragedy that demands his attention...and his axe.
Publisher's Summary
The White Lich has conquered Tanar Atain.
Soon, he means to take the entire world. Dante suspects his next target will be Bressel, where the Tanarians have established their court in exile. The only chance to stop the lich will be to forge a fragile alliance between the bitter enemies of three different lands: Tanar Atain, Mallon, and Narashtovik.
The city stands on the brink of rebellion. Yet even if Dante, Blays, and Gladdic can unite it, they still might not have the strength to stand against the army of the lich.
One last hope may stop the coming destruction: the legendary Spear of Stars. But the weapon was lost long ago. To find it again, they may have to travel further than they've ever known.

Lyells ball's. Outstanding.
This book was amazing.
I've been hooked since the 1st and devastated it's nearly over. What a ride, everything in my life has become background noise whilst I've been totally absorbed in this epic adventure. One last book to go but I know I'll be revisiting this series again in the future.

Fix the chapter order!
This review is purely technical. My chapter order is all out of wack! it starts with chapter 17. The actual chapter 1 starts at what the app says is 15. I just started it so we'll see if we actually have the full book albeit out of order.

Just Kill Me Now...
I NEVER write these. I just give my stars and go on about my life. I have some four or five HUNDRED books in my library, and I have never felt the need to write a review until now.
SPOILER ALERT
I think I may realistically die before I have heard how Dante and Blaze, Gladick, and Winden (sp?) baaaaarely made it past the blighted while traversing the city for, I kid you not, the 8th time.... or was it the 9th? Oh? Really? Wow! The 17th??? This book could have been 13 hours and been a MUCH better book, leaving out nothing important. It could have been a book of ^almost^ non-stop action rather than the snore-fest of listening to Robertson explain, in detail, how the characters LITERALLY fight from house to house in an attack of the city. I'm telling you, HOURS OF MY LIFE for them to cross the city - encountering blighted at every turn and, on every encounter, hearing everyone in the party cry how they were out of magic for the hundredth time only to barely make it through by the skin of their teeth. I would have given the book 3 stars given Tim Gerard Reynolds reliably outstanding performance, but I felt the need to offset all the yes-men who rated the book 5 star, which it is not. I appreciate the well-known witty banter between Dante and Blaze, but it did not make up for the boredom of slogging through yet ANOTHER iteration of hiding, waiting, being found, running, fighting, miraculous escape, wash, rinse, repeat.
I really expected better than this at this point.
SHAME on the editor.

Literature for angry boys who want to giggle while punching things.
Most of this series involves touring & traversing continents with challenges and haphazard / casual relationships... but this one is almost literally walk, fight, walk, fight, walk, fight, and there’s not one additional meaningful relationship. It’s just endless punching so much that our heroes nearly run out of punchy juice... followed by repeatedly finding just enough punchy juice to punch a little more before walking to the next day whereupon they will definitely need all the punchy juice they can scrounge because there will be so much punching needed cause of the ongoing and endless tidal wave of casual genocide rolling across the landscape in the background.

Stretching... time for an end
I liked the first books from this series since each one was in itself complete. I get that having a big bad may take longer. This, however, has gotten to be ridiculous. Please only have one more book and be done. This and the last story were easily forgettable as it felt like fluff. nothing worth holding onto. Even as a character dies I feel no sorrow for them.

This one was good.
So, these books are starting to get better again. The spear of light was a great and solid addition, while there is some dumbing down of Dante, it wasnt as severe as the Silver Theif book. The Spear of Light has been my favourite in the series and I'm eagerly waiting for the next entry.
Definitely worth the credit.

Another Galand hit!
Sad to say, but this was my least favorite of the series thus far, but, I still gave it 5 stars. Why? Because I still loved it! I mean, it's Dante and Blays and I could read a book about their mundane, everyday life and still be entertained.
<< POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD>>
The reason the book is my least favorite is that the storyline is centered around battling the Lich and saving Bressel, but has very little to do with the actual title of the book; The Spear of Stars. Maybe the title -Battle of Bressel, or -The Lich War would have been more fitting. With that said, however, the book is stocked full of epic battle scenes, the familiar banter between our favorite characters, Nethermancers, Ethermancers, new allies, and new enemies, and everything else that Edward Robertson's world has compelled us to love.

Apparently audible somehow downloaded the book out of order. I just got to chapter 15 only to discover that I had just listened to the entire second half of the book (which downloaded and played as chapters 1-14) and Chapter 15 is now starting off with the entire first half of the book. Ridiculous!!!!!!

Series is very 'surface level'.
All of the Dante and Blays books are okay; if a bit soulless. There's no real character development or personality. It's a fine book, sure. Like an action movie, just turn off your brain and enjoy. Every book follows the same formula, travel to a new land, meet tough but cool girl with accent, learn new power, fight a bunch of people whilst having plot armor so thick even the afterlife is covered. You can literally daze out at every fight scene and then snap back at the end and know everything is fine.
Seems like the author forgets his own plot points sometimes as well. These are not bad books by any means, certainly good enough to listen to all of them. But not 5 stars good like the bloated reviews say.
Magic system is... okay. But seems like author is pulling it out of their ass with each book under the guise of yet another secretive group of people that everyone knows exists but only Dante could manage to get inside of, which is an eyeroll of itself. There's lots of retcons in the magic system as well as the books go on. Dante is supposedly this super curious mage that has to unlock all secrets... but in the first book was stopped from a ritual to revive Arawn with literally no explanation as to why that was bad; or what they were really doing. And literally not a single reference to be had about it like 6 books later. Isn't that something Dante would have immersed himself in entirely? There's LOTS of abandoned and retconned plot-points throughout the books; and no immersion or lore or anything of the sort. It's a bit of a chore to get through, but it's okay for mindless entertainment.

Love the Series, but Not Enough Plot in this Book
I have listened to all of the Cycle of Arawn and Cycle of Galand books and enjoyed them all. Most of this book, unfortunately (for me) was consumed by one battle, with very little story-building until the last 2 hours. I still anxiously await book 6, hoping to tie up some of the loose ends and get back to the clever writing and witty characters I have come to enjoy.

Book out of order
I really like this series but this books technical difficulties made me very upset. Instead of starting at the beginning of the book I was thrown into the middle and kept listening thinking it was a time jump from the last book, but when the book ended and started back up from where the previous book left off I just turned off the recording. Thanks for wasting my time audible

Mainly just fighting
I loved the other books in this series, but I had a hard time with this one. It seems like 80% of the book is description of some fight or other. Don't get me wrong, each was really well described, full of brilliant detail. But I personally find battle scenes pretty boring, so this wasn't the book for me. Will still definitely read the next one though!

Frustrating and unrewarding installment
Without spoilers it's hard to explain my frustration with the story in this book.
So I will simply say it's the most slow paced drawn out book yet in the series and full of failure. I found it a little depressing and joyless read.
There's still something there that I like but I feel that this book and the last could have been cut down and merged together.

Feels like a filler
I have loved the earlier books in this series, reading most of them when I was seriously ill in hospital last year. As a result, the characters are very close to me and I thoroughly looked forward to the next instalment (this book). Sadly, this book left me lacking, and felt like nothing more than a filler until the next instalment - money making opportunity? The title doesn't even relate to the story! Not his finest work, well worth a read still.

Disappointed doesn’t move the story along
Like those TV shows that don’t actually move the storyline along basically a filler waste of time reading this although it is a fun book I feel like I’ve been cheated it’s quite a pointless story

What, there is another book to go?
I have fought battles and crawled through caves, I have felt the joy of victory and the agony of defeat and now to hear that the story is still not finished I want to scream. "What happens?!". Yes I get so frustrated with half hour battle descriptions and I feel the whole fourth book could have been left out, but I love the story and want to know how it ends.

Almost as good as the others in the series
Not quite as good as the previous books. Getting more long winded and less good as the series progresses.
