About this listen

'Is marriage just a series of texts about where the children are and whether we need milk until one of you dies?'

Susannah Parks - wife, mother, cleaner of surfaces and runner of household - is a viola virtuoso. Except she hasn't picked up a viola for over a decade. She has, however, picked up a lot of Lego, socks, wet towels and other exhibits of mundanity. She has also picked up on the possibility that her husband has lost interest in her. (And frankly, she's not very interested in Susannah Parks either.) But this year, she has resolved to be very interesting. Also thoughtful, useful, cheerful, relevant, self-sufficient, stylish, alluring and intelligent.

In her highly confidential diary, Susannah documents the search for the elusive spark in her marriage, along with all the high and low notes of life with her four beloved children, with her free-spirited (and world famous) best friend Ria, and with Hugh, the man who fills her heart with burning passion and her washing pile with shirts.

And perhaps amid the chaos she might be brave enough to find the missing pieces of herself.

WARNING: CONTAINS STRONG LANGUAGE, SEX SCENES AND FANTASIES ABOUT HUSBANDS UNPACKING THE DISHWASHER.

Hugh, Hannah, Suzanna, Rhea are very talented, so Elloise, Raffety, Jimmy, Mary-Lou, make what I imagine children, determination, family, friends, marriage and mayhem, in real time looks like.
Thank you Meg Bignell for a third book bound in brilliance :-)

Liked it, cried more than laughed, maybe because it brought back some memories that many might find resonating in their life.

Not funny really

Perfectly written, perfectly narrated. Well done Meg Bignell. Another venture for me outside my favourite genre and well worth the effort. Having been Conservatorium trained and graduated there was obviously common ground here for me as well as as the well familiar female battles that 'Zannah is facing here. I can't praise this read highly enough however if you have access to Audible do yourself the favour of the first rate narration of the author. A really first rate job! So much to love about The Sparkle Pages. A clever title, but somewhat misleading in its frothy frivolity.

What a ride!

Just loved this from start to finish. Easiliy identified with the character and the lives we as women often lose or give up but still would not have it any other way.
A story about beautiful friendship and a story that at times will make you laugh out loud as it reminds you of you and the art of being a wife and mother.

captivating, poignant, hysterical

Easy to listen to, relatable, funny and also cried! Loved it! Great narration by the author and loved hearing an Australian accent.

So true, honest and raw thoughts on motherhood. I even felt quite depressed in the beginning of the book. Motherhood is so consuming and can stomp all over those pre-children dreams. Through the sadness though, bursts of laughter, moments that are truly relateable.
So real and warming.
Well done Meg Bignell. This was my first book of hers and will not be my last.

laughed and cried
