About this listen
Fame and money rained down on Dess Hampton like a monsoon. She couldn't imagine needing more—until her golden voice was silenced. Now her quiet days are filled with her guitar and she savors every sunrise. Curious, and as a favor to a friend, she emerges to hear a rumored superstar in the making.
Music pours out of Erika Alvarez through her voice and her fingertips. She's awed that the reclusive Dess Hampton wants to hear her sing, and then blown away when Dess agrees to sit in for a few gigs.
Dess can tell that Erika is destined for the life that she once had and wants no part of, ever again. But can the magic of the music they make together, and the growing love between them, trump Erika's ambition and Dess's fears? How much are they willing to sacrifice for it—and for each other?
Contains mature themes.

The legal aspect of the 'problem' made no sense, and looked to be written for shock value without real backing. It wasn't a believable reason at all. The more they explained it, the worse it sounded.
The ex was completely villianized. No part of the character was relatable, and they weren't developed. They were just a pawn for problem progression. The ex had something against Dess for no reason. She was suck and gave up her career but she did nothing to her to make her so spiteful.
Love was forced on the character's too soon, and Erica's focus was so easily swayed for someone recovering from a broken heart. There was also barely a reason to hop into bed with another.
The break up happened so suddenly I hardly noticed it had happened, and it seemed for no reason.
Dess' "I'm not a good person" story also came out of left field and could have been hinted to in the beginning. Dess was portrayed at the beginning as a good girl for a musician, then suddenly she did bad things to a good person for no reason.
TLDR: The character's personalities/actions weren't consistent, and the author was aiming for shock factor more than a believable story. It was frustrating to listen to the relationship breakdown and the character's reasoning for it.
It Could Have Been Better
