About this listen

This title contains strong language and mature themes, including references to sexual violence, abuse of minors and animals, and suicide, that some listeners may find upsetting. Discretion is advised.

I just met my new son-in-law . . . And he’s my ex-husband.

They’re here. I watch them arrive from the kitchen window. My pregnant daughter and her new husband. They’ve barely known each other six months.

I greet him with a tight smile that he recognizes as fake.

Luke is no good for my beautiful, fragile Cerys. He’ll break her heart. I know that because he broke mine — when he was married to me.

I don’t know what he’s after. But I’m going to make it my business to find out.

Don’t underestimate me. I’ll do anything to keep my daughter safe.

Such a well crafted story, I found myself so frustrated with the naive and soft characters. However it is a testament to the quality of writing that I was completely immersed in the tale, however frustrating the neat ending was!

Spoilt and malleable characters were well crafted however infuriating

Good plot twist and turns but too much in between unlikable characters particularly the Daughter who swung from whimpering spoilt brat to capable and overachieving

Too long repetitive smoosh

Liked - readers voices were easy to listen to, plot was alright for the most part, some good twists
Disliked - unlikeable main characters all round

Good premise with unnecessarily disappointing characters

The story set in Wales, based is around Beth, her daughter Caris and Luke a gold digger, who was married to Beth for a couple of years and got nothing when they divorced. 27 years older than Caris he gets her pregnant and marries her in an attempt to take revenge on her mother. So many twists and revelations make this a hard to put down story.

Lots of twists.

I love the twists in this story. Great character development. You never know what is going to happen

Great read, unpredictable stories by Jane.

This is a great book. The author is fantastic and the narrators are very good. But one of the main characters is hands down the most moronic person I have ever come across. I found myself saying out aloud “what?! No!! Come on!!!” More than once.

Again, great book etc. Frustrating main character.

Great book, absolutely moronic main character

The Grandmother, the Son in Law and Second Husband have been fantastic to listen to, both the stories and narrators. Unusual and unexpected - I really enjoyed the views of the main characters in each changing chapter. The writing and narrators worked seamless through the changes. I love the style, content and look forward to reading more of books by Jane James.

Love all three books I have listened to

The story kept me interested to the end.
I will definitely read the next couple of books to see if this author joins my favourites list.
I thought the exposition in the epilogue twisted the family dynamics a little too far, straining my suspension of belief right at the end.

A tad complicated
