Publisher's Summary

A stand-alone, lighthearted crime romp featuring amateur sleuth Fellworth Dolphin by the bestselling MC Beaton.

Ignorance is bliss... especially when it comes to murder! Ever since the death of his father, Fellworth Dolphin has slaved away as a waiter to support his miserly, cold-hearted mother. So when she suddenly dies Fellworth is shocked to discover she has left him a fortune. Somewhat confused, Fell teams up with a girl from work, Maggie, to investigate the source of the riches. But what they find instead is a closet full of skeletons... Is it really possible Fell's father was involved in a decades-old train robbery? And who is the mysterious woman in the portrait hidden in his mother's wardrobe? As Fell and Maggie poke around the village for answers they find themselves on a surprise-filled path to danger and adventure - but all this good fortune could come to a sudden end if they don't stay one step ahead of a cunning killer...

M C Beaton is the author of the hugely successful Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth series, both published by Constable & Robinson. She left a full time career in journalism to turn to writing, and now divides her time between living in a village in the Cotswolds very much like Agatha's beloved Carsely, Paris and Istanbul.

Maggie and Fell more please.

Terrific story not sure the actual story, is up to par, it’s a bit of fun. Still the love story is wonderful I usually hate love stories but this one is sweet.

Another sweet M. C. Beaton tale

People like me, who cannot wait for the next offering of M. C. Beaton modern stories will enjoy this rollicking adventure, the muddled romance and the sweet serendipity.

Not up to Hamish & David Monteith but a bit of fun

Story wasn't bad although couldn't help thinking the robbery story was just a retelling.of the Great Train Robbery. Narrator really did sound like he was just reading the story rather than telling the story.

disappointing

I have listened to and enjoyed other MC Beaton books. This one is definitely well below the usual standard- banal storyline and oddly unworldly ideas. It seems like the author has never used a library before and seems unsure what money is worth, or how people work. The love story aspect is predictable and seems to be based on the idea of possessive love at first sight and using jealousy as a way to attract a partner.

Stopped listening an hour into it

I’ve purchased all of the Agatha Raisin books through Audible and although she can be annoying at times, nothing compares to Fellworth Dolphin.
I don’t know if it’s the terrible way the book is being read or the character himself but it was impossible to keep going with it.
The narrator sounded bored and very stiff like someone who is being made to read it.
The character was just horrible to Maggie and it made it hard to invest in their storyline, even the storyline was ridiculous in the way Maggie was injected into it and made to change her address, appearance and at times her own opinion to suit a man she worked with who suddenly decided to included her in his life on a whim. I deleted it after an hour in.
