Publisher's Summary

A serial-killer thriller from the acclaimed author of the number one best-selling Dark Yorkshire Series.

A killer stalks his prey. The five precepts are laid down. The sixth will be his own....

DI Nathaniel Caslin has earned the freedom to run his case load as he sees fit, bypassing the hierarchical constraints with his specialist unit. Little does he know a deadly adversary is walking the streets of York. One who will push the team to their psychological limits...

Reluctantly agreeing to a joint investigation alongside a detective from the Drug Squad, Caslin is perplexed by the multiple homicides of a number of addicts. Poisoned by their own supply with no apparent motive, the killings appear gang related. The crime scene is filthy and forbidding with each victim having the index finger removed from their right hand after death. A planned mutilation? A trophy? Strategically placed among the dead is a blooming pink flower, the only beauty within a dark, macabre scene.

When a bank employee vanishes only to be found dead at the hands of a medieval stoning, Caslin's team are left with a puzzle to unpick. An index finger is missing and inside the victim's mouth, carefully placed and undamaged, are the petals of a small pink flower...

A serial killer is on a mission. Caslin must reach into the darkness in order to confront the most dangerous and determined killer of the age. One who seeks to build a monument to his efforts. One who desires to see the world perish in flames...

Terrifying, thrilling, and suspenseful, The Sixth Precept is the latest installment in the internationally best-selling series by crime writer J M Dalgliesh.

Another absorbing read!

I love the DI Caslin series and I’m really sad that this is the last one for the present. Caslin has really developed into a likeable and interesting character especially note he is not so self destructive. Have no fear though, he’s still very much Caslin!!

Very much like 7

If I'd have thought this book was totally original I would have rated it as a 5. Unfortunately I believe it was greatly influenced by the film 7. This was based on punishing those responsible for committing the 7 deadly sins and if I remember correctly that also ended with an explosion when the killer was shot to fulfil the plot. This seemed to be the Buddhist interpretation using the 5 precepts. I don't like people using the works of others to that extent.

The thrills keep coming

Six books into the Dark Yorkshire series and they keep getting better. Plenty of action, thrills, spills and suspense make this an excellent example of the thriller genre. Great characters, each given enough detail to flesh them out without going overboard and slowing the pace of the story.

I'm looking forward to the next and hoping that Caslin's new relationship picks up and continues.

I received a free copy of this audiobook either from the author or a promotion or giveaway and am voluntarily writing an honest and unbiased review.

Fabulous series of books

Enjoyed all the Caslin books! Great narration, only criticism was that the narrator should have had more water to drink as I found his dry mouth distracting! Maybe that was just me! Great characters and accents were excellent! Looking forward to more in the series.
