A captivating story of botany, exploration and desire, by the multimillion copy bestselling author of Eat Pray Love

Everything about life intrigues Alma Whittaker. Her passion for botany leads her far from home, from London to Peru to Tahiti, in pursuit of that rare specimen: knowledge. But as her careful studies draw her deeper into the mysteries of evolution, she meets the man who she will come to love – whose perspective, radically different from her own, will transform the way she understands the world.

Radiating with all the heart, soul and earthiness as its unforgettable heroine, The Signature of All Things is a captivating celebration of the workings of this world, and the mechanisms behind all life.

I couldn’t stop listening to this incredible book. 21 hrs and I was glued to the book - the discriminations, the characters, the story line…A master piece.

Exquisitely written story that continuously makes one smile. Elizabeth Gilbert's writing is exquisite and turns otherwise boring historical information into a delightful read, with generous sprinkles of wit and humour.

As a native Dutchy - I am slightly annoyed at Beatrix's Russian accent, but that is a minor discomfort when enjoying Gilbert's linguistic mastery.

Elizabeth Gilbert is the queen of exquisite storytelling

Loved this passionate exploration of the workings of nature by a delightful character with a curious mind. The novel is well researched, I was transported back in time to life and scientific work in the 1800's. It is a wonderful celebration of inquiring minds during a time when people were contemplating the links between religion and nature.

Great read.

I enjoyed Juliet Stephenson's narration of Gilbert's masterful novel. It touched on so many topics and ideas which impassion ME: language, science, spiritual quests, geography, cultural history, human cruelty confronting human striving to improve our fellow creatures and our precious planet; all written elegantly and thoughtfully in the voice and experience of an exceptional woman who observes, listens, burns and never ceases.

Intricate story, superbly researched and performed
