Story
A modern masterpiece, The Godfather is a searing portrayal of the 1940s criminal underworld. It is also the intimate story of the Corleone family, at once drawn together and ripped apart by its unique position at the core of the American Mafia. Still shocking 40 years after it was first published, this compelling tale of blackmail, murder, and family values is a true classic.

Worst quality audio I've ever heard on audible
The story is okay, well written but nothing to do with the Godfather story; more just an pretense to tell the story of Giuliano. Good story, just was expecting more to do with the original Godfather.
The worst audio quality I've ever come across. I had to reset the audio to 0.85x speed, or it just sounds weird, like it's on fast forward. There are no pauses at the ends of chapters; the next chapter sounds like a run-on sentence. All the speech timings are rushed.
The supporting audio actors almost all sound like they're being recorded through a phone from the 90s.
Still, enjoyable listen, just took me half the book to get used to it. I suggest you slow down the audio.

I found this book to be extremely boring, however that could be due to the Narraters terrible voice overs. I tried to continue with the hope of some kind of improvement, it didn’t happen! only to be left with the thought of the hours I wasted... omg I will never get back

Narration issues, decent story
There's been a lot of comments on the narration, but I found slowing it to .85% speed helped. The fake accents are a tad jarring but I didn't notice them as much as others.
The story itself is decent, if a bit too much like a historical drama rather than a mafia story. still, it was good fun.

Sounds like Family Guy does The Godfather
Would you try another book written by Mario Puzo or narrated by the narrators?
The Godfather was a great book and the narration by Joe Montegna was also great. By contrast, The Sicilian sounds like a Dragnet spoof where some wiseguy speaks quickly out of the side of his mouth but without getting to the punchline. The different characters sound like they were recorded on an old tape recorder in various locations by gangster impressionists, then badly edited in some time later. There's no flow - the characters sound out of context.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The Priest - if an Italian Mickey Mouse Balloon Priest could talk, this is how I think he'd sound.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator spoke too quickly and it didn't seem to match the pace of the story. I believe for another kind of book he'd actually be good, but for this, it just didn't work. I suspect the other actors could probably also have done better under different circumstances (did they have to record their own parts at home and send them in?)
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Mario Puzo can write a good story even if the editing and accents were distracting
Any additional comments?
I think I'll listen to a sample before buying next time...

Stick with it
Initially I found the narration to be very poor. The delivery seemed too quick, with little expressiveness and the different character voices were poor. I think the audio has maybe been sped up at some point but I found slowing the speed down to x0.75 it sounded much better and I really grew into the story.

Poorly Narrated
I was looking forward to listening to this book, after having thoroughly enjoyed The Godfather, read by Joe Mantegna.
This however, was quite disappointing.
This is largely due to the narration in the style of a bored parent trying to read a bedtime story as fast as possible in order to get back to the second half of the football on TV. The voicings are inserted by actors, roughly edited and just sounds cheap.
The story itself is ok, but the author doesn't half love the protagonist, cringe worthy at times.

A fantastic tale let down by sub par production
This is a great story you won't already know from the films, however it is massively let down by some poor casting choices for the voices and the whole thing being every so slightly sped up. These things will probably bug you but the speed thing disappears from notice after listening for a short while and the main narrator is good so t he grating voices are only sparsely present.
