Story
The Spanish House is a mixture of designs, Georgian, Gothic and Moorish, as if whoever started it had simply got bored. It has long been known as an architectural folly to locals, and is now nearly derelict to boot. When its reclusive owner dies intestate, the Spanish House is left to his city-dwelling niece. For Isabel, recently widowed, the house is a potential lifeline - the only hope she has of providing for her two children without having to sell her most treasured possession.

Not my favourite from this author
I’ve read lots of Jojo Moyes and love her work. This one was good but not her best. I think there were a few too many characters so it took me a bit to get them all straight in my head. But it was an interesting story and was resolved well in the end.

Great Story
I enjoyed this book very much. The narration was excellent. The characters were well-drawn and evolved slowly during the story-telling to reveal their true natures and personalities. An interesting read.

A great read.
The narrator was fabulous. Great accents delivered with clear and precise diction. An entertaining story based on true events. It's not often post war events are told from women's perspectives. I learned a great deal pertaining to war brides and their struggles. I thoroughly recommend this book.

Slow to get going but a strong finish
It was really hard to get into this book for the first half, which spent a lot of time getting to know all the characters, but the second half saw much more emotion, storyline, drama. Strong finish.

Another lovely Jono Moyes book.
Ship of Brides started unusually and took me a short time to become interested, but then I couldn’t stop listening. It’s a wonderful book. The narrator gave the characters such believability that I sometimes felt I was onboard with them. Cheers to Jojo Moyes for writing this novel.

A fantastic journey
Nicolette McKenzie brings the characters of this amazing story to life, her narration of each character so realistic the reader feels the sadnes, joys and fears of each one. I was even starting to dread what I thought might be the outcome of this story, so cleverly does Jojo Moynes weave her tale. Loved it!
