Josie Bianci was killed years ago on a train during a terrorist attack. Gone forever. It’s what her sister, Kit, an ER doctor in Santa Cruz, has always believed. Yet all it takes is a few heart-wrenching seconds to upend Kit’s world. Live coverage of a club fire in Auckland has captured the image of a woman stumbling through the smoke and debris. Story
Lainey has just lost everything. Luckily one little fib (OK, quite a big fib) helps nail her dream job. Soon she's living in a stunning house by the sea, fending off obsessed fans for a retired - if far-from-retiring - actor and organising his charming but chaotic family. Yes, everyone thinks she's part of a couple, and it's tricky keeping this secret. But at least she's not looking for love: with her disastrous relationship history, men are definitely off the agenda.

Publisher's Summary
It's the summer of 1982. The Man from Snowy River is a box office hit and Paul Hogan is on the TV.
In a seaside suburb of NSW, housewife Theresa Howard takes up swimming. She wants to get fit; she also wants a few precious minutes to herself. So at sunrise each day she strikes out past the waves.
From the same beach, the widowed Marie swims. With her husband gone, bathing is the one constant in her new life.
After finding herself in a desperate situation, 26-year-old Leanne has only herself to rely on. She became a nurse to help others, even as she resists help herself.
Elaine has recently moved from England. Far from home without her adult sons, her closest friend is a gin bottle.
In the waters of Shelly Bay, these four women find each other. They will survive shark sightings, bluebottle stings and heartbreak; they will laugh so hard they swallow water, and they will plunge their tears into the ocean's salt. They will find solace and companionship in their friendship circle and learn that love takes many forms.

The story was okay but . .
The theme of female friendship makes for a nice story but stories need to be factually correct when they involve a serious health issue that impacts too many women. Spoiler alert When would a surgeon perform a mastectomy without first undertaking a biopsy? We don’t want to discourage women from seeking medical advice when a lump is discovered for fear of surgery without proper investigation so please authors, realise that some people can take away a misconstrued medical belief from a poorly written story.

Not for me
I couldn’t get into this book, I gave up after 18 chapters (about 1/4 way through). The performance was fine but I found the storyline moved too slowly. I could see the character building but it was slow and the victim energy that appeared at times was too much. I skipped ahead to find the adventures references in the description to see if I could move things along but I wasn’t hooked so gave up. I hope you have better luck than I did.
