Publisher's Summary

An overworked book publicist with a perfectly planned future hits a snag when she falls in love with her temporary roommate…only to discover he lives seven years in the past, in this witty and wise novel from the bestselling author of The Dead Romantics.

Sometimes, the worst day of your life happens, and you have to figure out how to live after it.

Six months ago, Clementine West had the worst day of her life. So, she came up with a plan to keep her heart safe: stay busy, work hard, take no risks. And it’s been working.

That is until one day she finds a strange man standing in her kitchen. A man with kind eyes, a crooked smile, and a recipe for the perfect lemon meringue pie. The kind of man that, before everything, she could have fallen for...

He’s perfect but for one thing: he lives in the past. Seven years ago, to be exact.

This should be impossible, but Clementine used to love impossible things. And maybe, just maybe, she will again.

After all, love is never a matter of time – but a matter of timing.

A roller coaster of a love story

This book is a roller coaster of a love story cantered around a magic apartment. It was beautifully written with a tragic love story throughout. It combined two of favourite things food and books. Highly recommend.

Loved the whimsical feel to the romance 🤍

ᴛʜᴇ ꜱᴇᴠᴇɴ ʏᴇᴀʀ ꜱʟɪᴘ
-ᴀꜱʜʟᴇʏ ᴘᴏꜱᴛᴏɴ

Navigating life after a devastating loss isn't easy, and Clementine had her own plan to protect her heart. Stay busy, work hard, find someone decent to love, and always remember to chase the moon – a metaphorical dream her aunt insisted upon. This plan worked, mostly, except for the love part. Clementine hesitates to get too close, fearing her heart can't handle it. Then, she discovers a charming man in her late aunt's kitchen, with kind eyes, a Southern drawl, and a penchant for lemon pies. A man she would have fallen for, but there's a catch – he's from seven years ago, living in her aunt's apartment, frozen in time. Clementine faces a dilemma: should she let her heart fall for someone who lives in the past?
Her aunt always claimed the apartment was a pinch in time, where moments blend like watercolors. Falling in love here could be disastrous. Love, after all, isn't about time but timing.

In "The Seven Year Slip," an overworked book publicist's well-planned future takes an unexpected turn when she falls for her temporary roommate, only to discover he lives seven years in the past. This witty and wise novel promises a satisfying time slip narrative, blending romance with a touch of magic.

Clementine's life revolves around plans until her vibrant aunt's death leaves her adrift. Moving into her aunt's apartment, Clementine is confronted by loss until an unexpected encounter with Iwan transports her seven years into the past. As they connect over food, family, and dreams, Clementine must grapple with the magic of the apartment and the uncertainty of whether love can transcend time.

"The Seven Year Slip" unfolds with delicious complexity, offering a romantic and hopeful narrative. Clementine's journey through grief and rediscovery is beautifully portrayed, and the intertwined plot threads create an engaging story. While connected to the author's previous work, it stands alone as a delightful summer read filled with love, friendship, and unexpected twists. Don't miss this enchanting tale by Ashley Poston, a must-read author in both YA and adult fiction.

I have the biggest book hangover

I absolutely adored this book, and oh my gosh the actor’s performance was immaculate. With the nuances she chose, it was SO easy visualise the quirky, slightly uptight female lead, Clementine. The author and actor combined also made it terribly difficult to not fall in love with the cool but rough, spontaneous man, Iwan, that Clementine crosses paths with 7 years in the past.

The romance in this book is wholesome and longing and feels so true. It paints an immersive picture of instant love at first sight between two people who round each other’s characteristics out beautifully. A little spicy at times too.

But to say this is a romance book would be selling it short. It’s also about watching how Clementine evolves and changes her life as she navigates the grief of her aunt’s death, as well as the grief and longing she feels as she tries to find that same man from the past in the present.

The depiction of grief and growth feels raw and honest — it’s always so hard putting it to words. In the epilogue, it’s told how the author lost her own Grandfather, and you feel like it really comes through in the writing.

I could not recommend this book enough. I finished it in 2 days and now I have a gaping hole in my heart as I try to come back to reality lol.

I honestly don't know

I read this book in November last year and to be completely honest I forgot that I read it until I was looking back through my library.

The only lasting impression I have of this book is that it drove me bonkers every time the audio narrator pronounced Iwan as ee-wahn instead of yoo-uhn 😬

Having read two Ashley Poston books I wouldn't recommend them to any of my friends, and I won't be reading them again.
