A 2018 Audie Award finalist for Multi-Voiced Performance

The entrancing story of a reclusive Hollywood starlet as she reflects on her relentless rise to the top and the long-held secrets the public could never imagine - from the best-selling author of Daisy Jones & The Six.

Reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love.

Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story nears its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

"Come for the glam Old Hollywood vibes; stay for a touching tale of a young reporter and a silver-screen legend." (Cosmopolitan)

I predicted the end maybe about 2/3 in. Main character not very likeable. Intriguing enough though.

Beautiful story that delivers more than you expect

I was expecting to be entertained but this story went to another level. Complex characters that became a perfect read for Pride Month. Taylor Jenkins Reid has such a knack for carrying you away to a fake celeb land that you forget is not real.

Wow

That was an incredible story.
I wasn’t as excited about the journalists storyline & her marriage until the end when it got juicy. Throughout the book the journalists perspective were the only slow parts for me & I was glad they didn’t go on for too long but in saying that… I think they just felt slower by comparison because Evelyn Hugo’s sections were so gripping and addictive to indulge in. Amazing read.

Well Read!

I loved this book. I really enjoyed and liked the characters and their world, but then again I'm always a suckered for old Hollywood. Like her other book Daisy Jones and the Six, I think this book is fantastic for the audible format. A great example of how the mediums of a good audio book and a good book could diverge a little into two different forms.
