Publisher's Summary

Meet Adrian Mole, a hapless teenager providing an unabashed, pimples-and-all glimpse into adolescent life. Writing candidly about his parents' marital troubles, the dog, and his life as a tortured poet and 'misunderstood intellectual', Adrian's painfully honest diary is still hilarious and compelling reading thirty years after it first appeared.

Critic Reviews

"We laugh both at Mole and with him. A wonderful comic read, that, like all the best comedy, says something rather meaningful." ( Heat)

Sicth!

The narrator can't say the word "sixth" to save himself. And it comes up a surprising number of times in this book. Down with sicth! it's killing me. I adore the book in general though and I'm enjoying the performance, (apart from sicth).

Funny and a good pick me up

Entertaining. Funny. Dramatic. Loved the style of writing. It takes you back to teenage awkward times and explores the dramas and challenges of being a teenager in a beautiful clever way.

Poignant and funny

Interesting format that was enjoyable. Thought it would be full of irritating teen angst but was straight forward, held my interest and quite funny.

Loved meeting Adrian

I met Adrian and for a year he let me into his whole life. Funny how snippets from a diary can be so rich and complete

The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4

Growing up, this was one of my favourite books of the eighties and Nicholas Barnes' narration takes it to a new level. Given Mole's naive teenage canter through the early part of that decade is just sublime to hear.

I'm planning to buy the whole series on Audible. Sue Townsend: you're hugely missed.

Always a classic

Took a few chapters to get used to the voice which was pretty flat. I suppose the narrator was deliberately monotone because he was acting the part of a 13 year old. The humour was brilliant and laugh out loud in parts. Nicholas Barnes really comes into his own in the next book in the series but this one is still a classics will listen to again.

Brilliant

Read this book 33 years ago , loved it. Just listened to it on a road trip with two 13year old boys. A trip down memory lane for me, loving the adult humour that I missed as a child. The two boys giggled all the way through . Such a classic

Awkwardly humorous

Very well narrated. Gave me a clear picture of Adrian's personality. I have to ask my cohab if he recognises himself in him. Laughed out loud several times.
