Story
A gripping collection of 15 BBC Radio full-cast dramas written by Bert Coules, inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original stories. In the 56 short stories and four novels Arthur Conan Doyle wrote about his great detective, how many times did Dr John Watson tantalise us with references to cases which were never written about in full? These original adventures flesh out those unrecorded cases to wonderful effect. Clive Merrison plays the great sleuth himself, with Andrew Sachs in the role of Doctor Watson.

Holmes in real historical settings
This is an interesting concept - the short stories are real cases in history and Donald Thomas has put Sherlock Holmes in as the detective that solves the mysteries. I really enjoyed it as it put a whole new level of complexity into what are often complex stories.
Well narrated by John Telfer again and I would recommend this book to history buffs as well as Holmes fans.

Disappointing book
I was really looking forward to reading this and listening to it but and there is a but, the first chapter was just a rehash of the original which was unnecessary and I found the author was putting words into Holmes or Watson that Conan Doyle would never have done. Very disappointed as i was really looking forward to this book.

Good idea, good narrator but a bit dull
Love the idea of injecting Homes into the narrative of real life crimes, but it's done with none of the excitement that you get in Conan Doyle's originals. These stories are very wordy and mostly lots of exposition, albeit capturing the style and tone of the originals. Modern copy cats forget Homes stories were meant to entertain folks, and they focus on style rather than substance.
