Publisher's Summary
Would you like to speak to the dead?
When Tori moves into a studio at the rundown Lamplight apartment complex, she gets more than she bargained for. The faucet leaks, the water heater barely functions, and the lack of air conditioning makes the summer nights brutal...
But worst of all is the dark presence that stalks the building.
When she and her friends play around with a Ouija board, Tori learns firsthand why the living have no business communing with the dead. Something sinister is roused in the process, and her life begins to spiral into madness soon thereafter. She suffers terrible nightmares, hallucinations, and feels as though she's being watched at all hours of the day.
And that's only the beginning. If the spirit has its way, it'll consume her completely.
With a terrifying specter on her trail and only a few cryptic clues about the building's curious past to aid her, Tori searches desperately for a way to get rid of the spirit.
What has escaped from the underworld will not go back so easily, however.

Mixed bag
Was The Seance in Apartment 10 worth the listening time?
I own most of Ambrose Ibsen's audio books and couldn't wait to listen to this one. Although the story was barely four hours long, it was a struggle to get though due to the narration. I'm going to assume that the narrator is probably a bit inexperienced; I am only leaving the negative review of her performance as a heads up to anyone who may be considering listening to the story over actually reading it. The narrator mispronounced quite a few words and had no shortage of strange inflections, primarily the habit of unspeaking.

Decent Story with Weak Haunting
It is clear that Ambrose Ibsen has gotten better at telling haunted house stories. This was a decent story, but not as good as you get with his later ones. I personally enjoy the journey of seeing an author mature through their writing so this was a great listen to hear his earlier works. Fans of Ibsen will most likely enjoy this, those who are not probably won't. Either way it was a decent haunted house story that didn't follow the typical plotline.
The plot was a bit interesting and while this is a lesson of what not to do, it was an interesting take on the whole haunted house stories. I didn't think it was all that scary compared to some of his other stories and thought the book was just about over until I realized there was another 45 minutes. Made for a weird transition for me to the actual finale, which I thought was a bit lack luster.
The characters were decent. I enjoyed Tori and thought that she seemed like your typical dumb college aged person who still makes bad decisions. She puts herself into further and further danger which while it goes against anything a rationale person would do, there wouldn't be much of a story if she was rationale. Wasn't terribly excited about the spirit in the book. Wasn't that spectacular and wished for more.
Valerie Englrhart did a decent job of narrating this story. I liked her voice and thought she did a decent job with the characters, wasn't excited about the mispronounced words or some of the cadence.

Couldn't get past the Narrator
I really like Ambrose Ibsen's stories. If you're in the mood for dark, creepy, something lurking in the shadows, he is my go to guy.
I liked the premise of this story but after listening to only ten minutes decided I just can't get past the narrator. She is reading too fast, almost like a nervous kid in front of a class that can't wait til he finishes his book report so he can sit back down.
I still want to read this story but I think I'll do it by actually reading it since I found the narrator more annoying than enjoyable. If you're looking for an Ambrose Ibsen story, I'd suggest one of his other ones like Transmission or The Asylum or Whispering Corridors. All of those I really enjoyed and the narrators did a great job.

The narrator is one of the worst ever
What on earth were the producers thinking? She reads at a billion words per minute and mispronounces very common words. This is completely ruined by the narrator. Listen to a sample before you spend money on this

Another well-written Ibsen supernatural thriller!
The Seance in Apartment 10 by Ambrose Ibsen is a little under 5 hours and for me, it was a little tougher to listen to than his typical books. The narration, by Valerie Englehart, just wasn't up to the usual standards that you find from other frequent narrators of his books, such as Joe Hempel. There were various mispronouciations and a few other errors and I just didn't love her voice.
Narration aside, the story itself was pretty good. In his typical fashion, Ambrose crafts a unique tale around a supernatural entity that is angry and wants to wreak havoc on whatever and whoever gets in their way. This particular time it just happens to be Tori and another friend who unlocked the very thing keeping this particular being at bay by using an Ouija board and also not closing out the Ouija session the way that they should have. Tori had just moved into her own off-campus apartment and as she learns more about the "cheap" housing she's in and past occurrances that have happened there, she realizes that there's something not quite living that's tormeting her. I don't want to give anything away, but it's an enjoyable story. If you can just listen and enjoy the story and not get too caught up in the narration issues, then you'll enjoy this book. Things NOT to do when you get a new place🙄
When you get a new place, don’t screw around with a ouija board!!! Moved into a new place and invited her friends over for a housewarming party. Little did she know what events would be set in motion. One girl brought a ouija board. This invited in a spirit of such a malevolent nature that the one girl was hospitalized with a brain aneurism. Now that the spirit world had been accessed and the door left open, our Mc is being visited by the spirit of the woman who hanged herself in the apartment above. Secrets will be revealed and a darkness will stare back into our very souls. We are not alone and once the world of spirits is touched, you are marked Forever and the veil around you will always be thinner and you will always be watched. Ibsen is as dark as ever and I love it!

Decent story
Decent audiobook. The story was pretty good but the main character did bug me a bit. It's like she lacked common sense completely. It did a good job to pray on my living alone fear there and the things you can't see. The narration with Valerie Englehart was pretty good. I do wish she had shown more emotion, more fear. She was kind of one note or monotone and lacked the real fear that would have escalated this entire audiobook IMO.
I am LOVING Ambrose Ibsen's covers though! Amazing!!

ok
I've read a few of Ambrose Ibsen's books and this isn't my favourite. I enjoyed it but felt it dragged out at times. the narrator isn't bad, but I didn't find the delivery lacked emotion or change. It was reading more so than narrating.
