Great book

Love the story. Jeff does the best endings of all the novels I’ve read. Kate does an amazing narration.

Fantastic conclusion

A really amazing and satisfying closure of a great trilogy. Ties off a lot of hanging threads but left me very keen for the next series.

Good series, have read all 6

If you could sum up The Scourge of Muirwood in three words, what would they be?

enticing, exciting, integral

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the story lines, so close to so much of our own peoples history, struggles, triumphs, and the ongoing fight between good and evil. It never comes by just getting everything handed to the people; character is never developed by living the life of Riley. The characters are well developed and are taken through a series of challenges, experiences, choices and relationships that teach them to grow up and become men and women of good character. The stories give good examples of how character is developed through the challenges and experiences we face in life. I love how the books give indications of gospel truths, principles of truth through out as the fight with good and evil wages and how truth can be twisted and used for evil. Alluding to the growth that comes by learning how to follow the spirit of God, (the medium) and how to discern the spirits that attempt to influence our lives for good and for evil. I was captured by the story lines and the characters.

Which character – as performed by Kate Rudd – was your favorite?

Loved them all, the good guys and the bad guys, great performance; I was inspired to look into some of her other works, did not care for some of the other stories but I am reading the Mermaids sister. I would look at and peruse anything Jeff has written and Kate has performed.

Any additional comments?

I am an avid reader, of all kinds of genre, and I will say, I was grateful to read such good stories that let you know the man and woman were going to marry and be intimate, without having to read through or skip the details. I really appreciated the respect and trust the characters develop in their relationships without having to read about their genitals or the sex. I know some people like that kind of thing, and I am not a prude, but I prefer the stories without having to enter into the bed chamber. I would recommend these books to my nephews and nieces for reading as well, I believe they would enjoy them.

Love Jeff Wheeler

This is a beautiful story and a great end to the series. I love his characters and how human they are. I love the fight between good and evil and that there are definite lines you must not cross. So much heart and struggle.

this third one was too religious for me.

There have been biblical themes throughout this trilogy but in this final tome, it was quite heavy handed and felt a lot like I was being preached to. I really struggled to finish this.

A very positive thing I thought about this is that Wheeler created a girl I could relate to (biblical themes aside). She gets dirty, she does a fair share of rescuing and getting herself out of her own scrapes. I am thrilled a male writer was able to create a personable and relatable female protagonist.

P.S. There is a HEA for Lia and Colvin in case you were worried

Ok conclusion to trilogy

A bit of a disappointment after the second book. I really enjoyed the first half of this book. I found the ending a bit forced. Kat Rudd does a good job in the narration. Obviously worth the read if you have read the first two books.

A good series but not the strongest

The performance made this a fantastic listen. This is probably the weakest of all his series. That said, it’s still beautifully written and extremely enjoyable. I can’t express how much I enjoyed listening to this series.

Big fan, but this fell a bit flat

I love Jeff Wheeler and Kate Rudd. I have bought series after series. I love how the stories develop and intertwine giving each world its own take on the Medium/Mysteries/Fountain. Each little tid bit creates a richer world. These books create a fantasy world while still connecting to real world ethics, philosophies, and morality concerns.

I can understand how difficult it is to write compelling stories. And I give total props to Jeff Wheeler and the imagination and creativity that goes into writing novels.

That being said. I feel like the second and third book fell a little flat compared to all the other books I have read/listened to. :(

I will try to explain my reasoning without any real spoilers.

Some elements seemed like a super weird forced mesh of today’s religions that were too obvious to modern events. A would-be Star of David, an “evil” water right ceremony yet “blessed” anointing oil, and then a random comment eluding to priests molesting children. The theme of that particular situation seemed to originally be greed and vanity...then went totally off base and didn’t have any real foundation or evidence in the story.
The characters seemed to flounder as if each chapter was a roll of the dice. There were stretches that would drag without reason and other parts that would quickly mash weird character-story climax/twist that had no real depth. Just to twist back and forth again without any real motive or goal.
Some elements seemed far too emphasized that it made it shallow, ie the sin of drinking.

I just feel like these two books could have used a bit more time to marinate. It didn’t seem to hit the mark

I will still continue to be a fan and purchase many more of Wheeler’s books. They are awesome.

What an amazing journey!

Wow! What an amazing journey! I listen to audiobooks on my daily commute and I listened to all three in the series consecutively. I was captivated and so into the story, I drove slower so I could listen to more.

Jeff Wheeler created a world that I felt I could taste and smell. His research paid off as I could feel the truth in the rites he described and the way in which the Medium works.

I am in love with all the characters and want to continue journeying with them as they continue serving the Medium. I won’t say anymore so as to not spoil it—but if you enjoy fantasy adventures with realism, detail, mystery, intrigue, good, evil, and epic love...these books are for you!!

A journey of true integrity

The main character is who we all hope we can be at our core. I found myself running back to the story with every free moment I had, thoroughly enjoying it. My only complaint is that there were times between past and present where the shift was abrupt, so pay close attention to that while listening! I must check to see if there is a follow up to this I certainly will look into the prequel mentioned in the authors note! Great listen!

Loved it!

A great adventure with twists and turns. A bit sanctimonious in moments, but a wonderful main character who grows up quickly and fights to be her best. Yet, she recognizes that she couldn’t have faced what she did without the people who loved her and became her family.

A fitting end to an amazing trilogy.

The story so immersive, the characters so familiar and real means you live this story from beginning to end. I miss Lia, Pasqua, Soa all of them and am a little less for their loss.
