About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

In a disintegrating and increasingly lawless land, a young man is travelling north.

Ben is a young painter from the crowded, turbulent city. For six months, his fiancée Cara has been living on the remote island of Sanctuary Rock, the property of millionaire philanthropist Sir John Pemberley. Now she has decided to break off their engagement and stay there for good.

Ben resolves to travel to the island to win Cara back. But the journey there is a harsh and challenging one, and when he does arrive, a terrible shock awaits him.

As Ben begins to find his way around Pemberley's perfect island, he knows he must also discover—what has made Cara so determined to throw her old life away? And is Sanctuary Rock truly a second Eden, as the mysterious Sir John claims—or a prospect of hell?

By the Sunday Times best-selling author of The Last Day, this high-concept thriller will provoke and grip you from the very first moment.

Great imagination. The author did a marvellous job of reading this audiobook. I was captured very quickly and enjoyed every minute.

An Excellent Read

Andrew Hunter Murray has truly hit his stride. He has three novels to his credit now, all of them worth the time and cost. (I have read all of them now that I have finished Sanctuary.) Each of them is as unique and individual as the next, to the point where there is no way of telling what he'll write next, however, for me, I know I will gladly be waiting impatiently, once it is announced, to purchase it. Hunter Murray breaks one of my golden rules for authors and that is NEVER narrate your own audio book. (It is extremely rare for an author to do this well.) I'm glad he did though, as he isn't just competent, he really does deliver the goods in Sanctuary. He narrates his own work with confidence and character and is a pleasure to listen to. Sanctuary never falls into "well worn, tired or familiar trope" territory. It was such a refreshing change to find a work that does not fall into the same tired predictable formula. In Sanctuary, Hunter Murray has presented us with a work familiar enough to be comfortable and distinctive enough to make me sigh with relief. Thankyou Andrew, can't wait for your next offering.

The unique story and riveting storytelling draws you in so that you always want to know what happens next. It's fantastic hearing the author read his own work as he puts his passion into his voice. He also limited his mention of moss to just twice, showing monumental restraint.

Couldn't stop

Having now finished 2 first class novels by this author (whom I'd never heard of until recently), I'm so impressed and gagging for the next one!

First class!

I've just re-read all, this far, three of Murray's books.
Clever, original, tender, surprising, satisfying.
