Publisher's Summary

Bring nature into your home with the uplifting true story of the couple who lost everything and embarked on a journey of salvation across the South West coastline, brought to you by Penguin.

Just days after Raynor Winn learns that Moth, her husband of 32 years, is terminally ill, their home is taken away and they lose their livelihood.

With nothing left and little time, they make the brave and impulsive decision to walk the 630 miles of the sea-swept South West Coast Path.

Carrying only the essentials for survival on their backs, they live wild in the ancient, weathered landscape of cliffs, sea and sky. Yet through every step, their walk becomes a remarkable journey.

The Salt Path is an honest and life-affirming true story of coming to terms with grief and the healing power of the natural world.

Read by author Raynor Winn, this deeply felt, personal tale is a beacon of universal strength.

Beautiful, honest, heartfelt, I'll miss them.

I'm so sad to finish this, Ray and Moth feel like my new, old friends. What a journey! Thank you for sharing with such honesty and so eloquently. I'm so sorry for the hardships you have suffered and homelessness is now at the forefront of my mind. You are both an inspiration for your love and courage. Much love.

Beautiful story of renewal

I really loved the journeys, both physical and emotional, that i wad taken on. I'm a bushwalker so this resonates with me plus my mum has a neurodegenerative disease which responds well to walking, so good to listen to on both accounts. i finished the book with hope in my heart

Best Book I’ve Bought All Year

What joy this book was to listen to. What unbridled joy and immense satisfaction this book gave me. Raynor is a master storyteller, her language rich and vibrant, her environment as clear as day in my mind. That she narrates is the icing on the cake - her performance embodies her experience. Normally, I do things while listening. Not this book. Cup of tea, on the couch and a luxurious hour or two of listening. This is a splendid book. From the depths of despair, the rut of homelessness (been there) and the fickle and often bitchy behaviour of supposed friends, I railed against every injustice and marvelled at the nature so wonderfully described. I loved this. It now sits amongst my favourites.

Amazing with Courage/Life Changing

A Amazing Story and very emotionally moving which held me captured so much that I was Googling all the Place's the Path took them on. I Googled the Path and followed while listening to the Story the whole way except the Place/Barn they stayed in the Winter I couldn't find that. By Googling and checking where they were walking made me really feel part and in their story....walking it with them. The Courage and Determination is Amazing.....God Bless Thank you for Sharing your Story. Love the Cover of Book and look forward to the Follow on Book.

Worst Ever!

Absolutely awful book. Sorry for the family's troubles but this was a dreary repetative litany of woes not helped by mind numbing monotone of author's voice. Such a relief to have finished.

A review of The Salt Path

Homeless Raynor and Moth take off on a life changing odyssey along Britain's coastal paths to figure out what to do next, oh and at the same time, while trying to cope with a terminal illness. A rather unexpectedly enjoyable book and a reminder to the rest of us to be kinder to those around us who find themselves in less fortunate circumstances. Thank you Raynor and Moth for sharing your amazing journey, I wish you the best of luck.

amazingly inspirational!

You have to listen to this book! this book really makes you think about the homeless population in the uk and how homelessness can strike when you're least expecting! hearing about Moths degenerative disease also makes you realise you should never take life for granted. I'm 22 and I'm now at that stage in my life where I have no idea of what I want to do, but I feel a pressure to discover what I love doing and persue it. I started walking the Southwest Coast Path last summer and I've covered about 50 miles from Minehead to Croyde. I would recommend anyone who is looking to test and prove to themselves they can do something and see it all the way through to walk the path! this book has inspired me to get back on the path in spring and just walk for as long as I physically can. Raynor has really managed to explain the sense of freedom you get from the path, which is what I really struggle to do when talking to friends and family! If this book doesn't make you feel like you want to do something spontaneous I don't know what will!

Disappointing

Storyline is ok and tells of human strength and perseverance. However, there are some messages I cannot agree with regards to wild camping (e.g. disregard of land ownership). The worst is the manner in which the narrator speaks: her natural reading voice sounds like a constant lament. The whining voice made me depressed! I understand many parts of the story are suited to that way of reading but even positive parts of the story are read like that. Overall: not pleasant. The book had been suggested by a friend and I only finished it because I wanted to know how the story finished - a proper finish I did not get either.

Story good. Speech impediment diction distracting

Slow starter but a very good life affirming story. A real eye opener about homelessness and unconscious bias. I wished I'd bought the book as sadly I found the diction and speech impediment very distracting. I felt I knew the characters and was wishing they'd get a lucky break. I admired Ray's grit and determination and it was lovely to see the couple rekindle that spark which attracted them to each other at the beginning of their relationship. It's easy to 'say, all you need is each other'. This couple have lived it!

I couldn’t listen

Within a few lines of this book, I had to delete it because the author shouldn’t be narrating it. She’s terrible! What a shame. I’ve been waiting to read this book for ages.

Simply amazing

A beautiful book. Raynor’s descriptions of everything she sees brings the book to life and I felt like I was walking and wild living with them. I cried at the end purely because I didn’t want to part from them or the path. Highly recommended.

In-audible narration!

This story might have been good but I couldn't get lost in it as I was so distracted by the narration. I found some of the words difficult to understand and I use audible as a platform to help me read books as I usually take in info better audibly. It was short sighted for the author to narrate this book. It's probably worth giving the paper book a read if that method is to your liking, but I'd advise against the audible version.

More of a Journey than a Walk

Really enjoyed this book. Gives a realistic insight into walking and having to start over in life from scratch in your middle years!
