And then it happened, a familiar sensation that Jonathan hadn't had for decades: an out-of-body experience that transported him to another place, the safe place he used to escape to in his mind when he was a boy.

Publisher's Summary
Bring nature into your home with the uplifting true story of the couple who lost everything and embarked on a journey of salvation across the South West coastline, brought to you by Penguin.
Just days after Raynor Winn learns that Moth, her husband of 32 years, is terminally ill, their home is taken away and they lose their livelihood.
With nothing left and little time, they make the brave and impulsive decision to walk the 630 miles of the sea-swept South West Coast Path.
Carrying only the essentials for survival on their backs, they live wild in the ancient, weathered landscape of cliffs, sea and sky. Yet through every step, their walk becomes a remarkable journey.
The Salt Path is an honest and life-affirming true story of coming to terms with grief and the healing power of the natural world.
Read by author Raynor Winn, this deeply felt, personal tale is a beacon of universal strength.
Critic Reviews
"A beautiful, thoughtful, lyrical story of homelessness, human strength and endurance." (Guardian)
"The landscape is magical: shape-shifting seas and smugglers' coves; myriads of sea birds and mauve skies. It's a tale of triumph: of hope over despair; of love over everything." (Sunday Times)
"An astonishing narrative of two people dragging themselves from the depths of despair along some of the most dramatic landscapes in the country and ultimately finding themselves." (Independent)

An inspirational story
Omgosh this was such an inspirational story of courage, determination and love. Although I wouldn’t call it a love story it made me think about all of the issues that this couple faced and their love for each other. I thought about the story even when I wasn’t listening to it snd couldn’t wait to resume.

Moving, meaningful journey into the self
An amazing journey undertaken when all else was lost. I wanted so much to know what happened after the finished - would have been a nice epilogue. Gripping and very poignant. At times, the writer's/narrator's pronunciation made a few words a little hard to hear clearly, especially "L" words, but it was great to hear it in her own voice.

Beautiful book
A wonderful example of triumph over adversity. But much more than that, it's another recipe for journeying more than distance. time too. Rewilding, getting back to who we once were. Showing us up for being cultural dip shits by victimising people whose label of poor ostracizes them. People are so much more than the sum of their back balance. What a wonderful model of freedom for us all to learn from. Fat kisses to Raynor and Moth. Bloody heroes!

Moving
Poignant, beautiful imagery and a true story of the resilience of the human spirit. This beautifully written true story narrated by Raynor herself will move you and stay with you long after ending with the perfection of a lightly salted blackberry.

Truly inspirational.... a wonderfully written and poignant story.
This is a wonderfully personal, intimate and honest, true story of an epic walk. Having undertaken the coast path walk myself 30 years ago I am full of admiration for Ray and Moth’s incredible undertaking. We had the option of staying in B&Bs and having a hot shower whenever we wanted. We could visit the quaint little tea houses and enjoy a cream tea whenever we wanted. Having the stress of very limited finances hugely increases the challenge of this remarkable and at times, very physically challenging walk. Ray’s description of the natural beauty, the weather and the characters met along the way show her to be a perceptive observer with great poetic expression. I’m now off to download “The Wild Silence”. I hope someone makes a documentary about their epic journey.

Beautiful, honest, heartfelt, I'll miss them.
I'm so sad to finish this, Ray and Moth feel like my new, old friends. What a journey! Thank you for sharing with such honesty and so eloquently.
I'm so sorry for the hardships you have suffered and homelessness is now at the forefront of my mind. You are both an inspiration for your love and courage. Much love.
