About this listen

The first girl had a bite mark on her neck, but they traced the DNA to her boyfriend. But the tabloids got hold of the story and called the killer The Rottweiler and the name stuck. The latest murder takes place very near Inez Ferry's antique shop in Marylebone. When the Rottweiler’s trinkets start showing up in the shop, suddenly, everyone Inez knows is a suspect, and the killer feels all too close. Someone saw a shadowy figure running away past the station, but the only other clues are that the murderer usually strangles his victims and removes something personal - like a cigarette lighter or a necklace. Since her husband died, Inez has supplemented her income by taking in tenants. The murderous activities of the sinister 'Rottweiler' will exert a profound influence on the lives of this heterogeneous little community, especially when the suspicion emerges that one of them may be a homicidal maniac.

Not challenging, just a great story. Different to her other books. Much more urban and gritty.

Hugely entertaining.

Rendell delights in the quirks of human personality and behaviour, and it's obvious she had fun with this one; it kept me thoroughly entertained.
Nigel Anthony is incredibly talented and the perfect narrator for this story.

odd but enjoyable

I want to give 3 and a half stars but I’m not sure how. I have read a few of this authors books and this one is a very unusual tale. It is definitely not a psychological thriller, but on Audible it was a relaxing listen.
The characters are low key and rather droll personalities, but I did find the killer’s exploration into why he killed young women interesting. The ending was not what I expected.

Not the most enjoyable Ruth Rendell I have read. Very slow plot, well read though.

Not Boring

Such a different way to study and solve a crime! All the characters very entertaining. Clever lady is Ruth.

Excellent

Ruth Rendell intrigues with her plot while exploring faultlines in completely plausible characters. A pleasure and totally absorbing story.

A very satisfying read.

Tragicomic psychological suspense, full of twists and turns as the writer spares none of her characters from an ironic observation or painful fate.

Rendell a la Dickens

Loved this book. A Rendell classic. The narrator's character voices are perfect and inspired. Recommend it.

Well worth the listen. I can’t think why it is only getting four stars. Not Wexford but you can’t have everything. Very insightful into the working of the criminals’ mind. And of course brilliantly narrated.

Awesome! Ignore 4 star rating
