Publisher's Summary

She ran away from the truth, but she can’t run forever.

Seven years after his sister vanished without a trace, Jude is on the road, determined not to return home until he has found her. He wants to reunite his broken family, but more than this he wants to know why Zoe left - what happened when they were kids, on that terrible day when everything fell apart.

They’d been enjoying the funfair - grasping a rare moment of happiness following their parents’ divorce - when after a ride together, Zoe had stopped speaking to her mother’s new partner. Though Mandy believed he was the man she’d waited all her life for, her love for her daughter trumped even that, and soon suspicions of an unthinkable betrayal shattered the family.

So finding Zoe would be just the start. If Jude can find her, then what happens next will depend on the story she’s been carrying with her all these years. Because when families are destroyed by dark secrets, can the wounds ever truly heal?

Love Nick Alexander’s work - just not this one

Love Nick Alexander’s work - just not this one. I couldn’t get into it. It just dragged on and on - which I’ve never experienced in his other books. You Then Me Now was fabulous, couldn’t put it down. let the Light Shine (hope I got title right) was also great. The male narrators voice when he was reading the female part was too hard to listen to.

Strong characters & dynamic storyline

Strong Characters and a dynamic storyline. With most of Nick Alexander's stories so far that I’ve read, you have two POV and 2 timelines. All his characters feel like people I would know in real life and I find it easy to relate to their problems as well as their good times. I especially liked Jess, Jude’s girlfriend. With this story, the messy family life is interesting and quite believable. Zoe, at first, I wasn’t sure what to make of the whole drama and the author really takes you down one rabbit hole and then you pop out into another warren altogether. It was seamless and so well executed. I’m definitely a new fan of Mr. Alexander and will be looking for his next novel

Enjoyed this. Compelling characters. Some deeper themes but story needed more depth. Good lighter read.

OK

I like everything written by NA as the characters are so interesting and the storylines are well researched. I liked the male narrator, though his accents were poor at times. The female narrator was awful. She kept using a strange rhythm that didn’t make sense to the sentences she was reading. This spoilt the book for me as I was more aware of the reading style than listening to the story. I won’t buy anything read by her again but I continue to be a big fan of NA and his imagination.
