About this listen

Bloomsbury presents The Revenge Club written and read by Kathy Lette.

'Fast moving and frothing with the fun kind of female fury' JO BRAND

WHEN THE ODDS ARE AGAINST YOU, IT'S TIME TO GET EVEN.

Matilda, Jo, Penny and Cressy are all women at the top of their game; so imagine their surprise when they start to be personally overlooked and professionally pushed aside by less-qualified men.

Only they’re not going down without a fight.

Society might think the women have passed their amuse-by dates but the Revenge Club have other plans.

After all, why go to bed angry when you could stay up and plot diabolical retribution? Let the games begin...

Critic Reviews

Like champagne with a pie chaser. Sparkling and surprisingly satisfying (Penny Smith)
As always, she's witty and gritty and surprises at every turn. "Nine to Five" meets the "First Wives Club" in this gripping story of revenge (Ruby Wax)
Kathy Lette's razzle-dazzle charm, humour and versatility sometimes obscure the seriously impressive achievement of this girl from the Shire: For fifty years now, she has articulated - with outrageous candour and an infallibly observant eye - the best and worst bits of being female. The Revenge Club is erotic fan fiction for the peri-menopausal. But amid all the hilarity and blood-Letteing (see what I did there?) there beats a solid reminder that female friendships are the love affairs that never dim. (Annabel Crabb)
Sometimes dark, often rude and always sparkling. A total tonic (Adele Parks, Platinum)
A poolside read that will have you chuckling into your cocktails... full of wit and slapstick moments, the story also has a moving twist that reinforces the serious subtext - sometimes women just have to come together and give the patriarchy a kick in the proverbial. Bravo! (Woman & Home)

The story line to this book was good but I hated the writing and didn't really like the author read narration either, just didn't do it for me. Read as part of my book club but really struggled with this book.

Finished (just)

The concept originally grabbed me but the style of writing I found cringey and over dramatic. Trying too hard to be humorous. Often leaving me with an exhausted feeling as all characters, especially the main woman, spoke in metaphors and hyperboles constantly. I could not finish the book as I lost all interest in the plot and characters. 🥺

Hyperbole and metaphors were exhausting

The premise was good but the telling of the story and the narration was not.

Not the best narration of a try-hard story

It’s so cringey. Terrible one liners. I couldn’t take the dialogue and stopped listening 3 chapters in

Dreadful

I was truly excited to finally ‘read’ a Kathy Lette book. A fellow Auzzie. This is everything I hoped feminist literature and ‘chick-lit’ was NOT. It was a struggle to get through. And I allowed it plenty of space to change my mind as I went to the end hoping for some kind of redemption but none eventuated. I’m sad.

Unfortunately unimpressive

I really hope there are more books that really plump up the “I don’t give a shit Lit” genre! I really enjoyed this story and related to so many of the examples of sexism, misogyny and overall chauvinism. I really like men, but their entitled behaviour needs to be addressed.
A great read

Thank you!
