Alecyn, Jerad and Eevee make it into The Heart where Alecyn is learning to use her powers and Jerad is training with the Nelim. Events in The Heart lead to an unexpected, urgent need to leave The Heart. Alecyn acquires one of the four mystical fragments from Erevar. She then transports the survivors outside of The Heart and into the Southlands. Here they battle Shreikers, Mutes and humans allied with Atramen. Alecyn, Jerad, Nelim and Kajani work together to fight Atramen's army which leads to the final defeat of Atramen.
