Lord Michael Sutherland, Viscount Ellersleigh, is infamous among the ton for his powers of seduction and his prowess as a lover.

Running from his own ennui and a lover who fancies herself his future wife, Michael retreats to the country and a crumbling, haunted castle won in a game of chance...a castle occupied by an innocent and oh-so-tempting young woman, Miss Abbigail Barrows.

But country life proves to be anything but quiet. At a debauched house party, Michael finds himself confronted with an unfortunate quandary: Marry Abbigail, an innocent, or hang for murder.

Residing at Blagdon Hall, Michael's faced with the dilemmas of seducing his new wife, who seems to be impervious to his charm, and unraveling the mystery of Blagdon Hall's resident ghost and the nefarious goings-on at the neighboring estate.

Belongs in Erotica Genre

Too much erotic sex, too little romance in this story that was difficult to follow & was depressing. I skipped lot of it.

Michael and Abigail

This is the second book in the Dark Regency series by Chasity Bowlin, I enjoyed the first book so much I could not wait to listen to this one. This book brings Lord Michael Sutherland, Viscount Ellersleigh, and Abigail Barrows together, we met Michael in the first book, he is the best friend of Rhys who held the starring role in The Haunting of A Duke. As our story starts Michael has won a country estate in a game of cards, on arrival at Blagdon Hall, he finds it to be very rundown, with only two elderly servants a resident ghost and Abigail Barrows in residence. The estate passed to her cousin on the death of her parents and now that it belongs to Michael Abigale has to leave her home and go and stay with her step-sister and her husband at the neighboring estate. Michael feels bad about this as the reputations of her relatives are nefarious. The following evening he accepts an invitation to dinner at the neighbouring Hall and finds that Abigale is being pursued by her brother in law, Michael wants to help her but just by being alone with her, even though they are only talking, her reputation would be ruined. The person Michael won Blagdon from is also a guest at the house and whilst Michael is alone with Abigale he is murdered, Michael becomes the prime suspect his only way to avoid the hangman's noose is for Abigale to be his alibi which would mean the ruination of her reputation. So follows a hasty marriage, encounters with the Hall's resident ghost, several murdered/missing girls together with several attempts on Michael's life. All these things are linked to Abigale's family, antique artifacts, and human sacrifices. As this is the second book in the series, all of the main characters from the first are included, so we get to catch up with Rhys and Emmy, Emmy's sister Larissa and Spencer. Spencer's character played an important part and I look forward to listening to his story, hopefully next or soon. The historical accuracy/descriptions are very good, the characters become more developed but the book did rely a lot on the sexual side of Michael's relationship with Abigale so bear this in mind when thinking about buying this book. That said the storyline, is exciting and dramatic, if somewhat dark, the sex scenes sizzle and the chemistry is hot. I particularly enjoyed the narration by Lillian Yves, she did an incredible job of bringing every character to life, all the voices were different but recognizable and for me she made this particular book a joy to listen to. I was given a copy of this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.

Disappointed

I struggled to finish. At times I slightly lost track of who was the character talking if it was female. The story started of quite mysterious and wicked. I thought it would be revealed why things happened and whether there was any reasoning as to why it happened the way it did. Did this magic work or not. We shall never know. I'm frankly disappointed.

The Redemption of a Rogue

This was a good smexy listen. Lillian Yves did a good job with the narration. Occasionally she had to switch to an accent and she did a great job with that. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Enthralling

I originally read the ebooks as part of a box set of this series and reviewed these on 1st January 2018 on my usual platforms. I was recently asked if I would like to listen to the audiobook of the second story and because I had enjoyed the books so much I agreed to do this. This is what I now have to say about this story: Chasity Bowlin knows just how to combine a regency romance with a bit of heat, mystery, murder, good guys, bad guys and a bit of the occult or witches or special abilities thrown in. This particular story is a stand-alone but the people involved in all three of the books that I read are close friends and/or siblings and they really care for and look after each other. This is really made clear in each story. Lillian Yves narrated in her usual splendid way which makes the story even more interesting and entertaining. These two talented people make a great team and I am happy to recommend both the ebook and the audiobook which I thoroughly enjoyed. I received an advance copy of the audio and this has been my voluntary and unbiased review of it.

Judgements Abound

So I've listened to the other stories in this series and I'm quite fond of Michael. He deserved someone who treated him for the kindness he showed, not the rumors she heard. I never warmed up to Abby because of that reason alone. I'm glad I listened to it though. I've enjoyed the series. This one is my least favorite though.

Incredible!

This was a new author and narrator for me and wow! What a story! Lillian Yves was easy to listen to & told the story in such a way, I was able to get lost in it. Chasity wrote the story in a way, you can visualize the scenes, characters, etc. Excellent audiobook!

Good story however

I enjoy story but absolutely hate narrators voice. This takes place in England not New England or ny.

Dark magic, the occult and love...

I started listening to the series with book 4 and returned to the first three to find each of them an enticing Gothic romance, where the occult hangs ominously in the background threatening the lives and sanity of our protagonists and where true love gives them strength to fight the dark, vicious powers and to gain happiness in the end...:) In 'The Redemption of the Rogue' Michael, while trying to escape the boredom of the Ton, finds himself unexpectedly married to Abbigail, practically a social nobody; it's either that or he'll hang for murder he didn't commit. That's the starting point for a story in which we will try to discover who is behind the ritualistic murders while following the trails leading to an occult sect... and we'll keep our fingers crossed for Michael and Abby to find their happy ending:) The plot is really fast, it takes us on a wild ride, with all the elements of the occult and the magical brilliantly woven into the tale, giving the book this really Gothic feel I like. We feel the danger, it's there, hanging in the air, almost palpable... And even though we may feel we know who is behind it all, who is pulling the strings... well, there are surprises on the way:) In just one sentence: I couldn't stop listening:) As for the narration, I liked it a lot; Ms Yves does a really good job with the voices, they match the personalities of individual characters. The only thing I could complain about is the pace of her reading - I sped it up a bit (but I've been doing it all the time recently, so maybe that's just me....) DISCLAIMER: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Dark, Rich, Sultry, Suspenseful Regency Romance!

So far the Dark Regency series has achieved a near perfect score for providing sexy, passionate, suspenseful, romantic, Regency entertainment. All neatly tempered with a hint of the supernatural. Abbie and Michael's meeting and subsequent marriage has plenty of potential to fail. Abbie is a virginal, country girl with a jaded impression of men. Michael is a rake, bored out of his mind with his usual pursuits. Having to choose between sending Michael to the gallows or getting married, the two opt for the latter. And, of course, the plot thickens, as does the chemistry between the two, and the story gets darker. Between disappearing girls, erotic artefacts, rituals in the night, a resident ghost, Abbie and Michael haven't a moment to get regret their union. Chastity Bowlin has written and Lillian Yves has narrated a decadent and dark Regency romance. If this is your preferred genre, you aren't going to want to miss this series! This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
