Publisher's Summary

John Flanagan makes a spectacular return to the world of Ranger’s Apprentice with the revelation of a conspiracy that could end the Kingdom!

John Flanagan returns to the world of Ranger’s Apprentice to find out what happens when Will’s apprentice, Maddie - the Royal Ranger - returns home to Castle Araluen. The Kingdom may have been at peace for a number of years, but there are always those who would commit treason to take power for themselves. When Maddie learns of a plot against the crown, she must go undercover to find out more - and hopefully stop it. But going undercover isn’t easy when you’re the princess - even if you’re trained as a Ranger.

Following on from Ranger's Apprentice: The Royal Ranger is a second book of Maddie's adventures. Princess by day, Ranger's apprentice by night, Maddie must keep her identity secret at all costs, for the sake of the Kingdom.

I love the series - pity the narrator changed

William Zapper was such an amazing narrator to this series. Such a difference having John Keating narrate - suddenly we have random terrible Irish accents for most of the characters & it has certainly lost its appeal for me (lucky there are only 2 books narrated by Keating!)

Great story, not as great narration

Story was great just like all Rangers Apprentice books. Was surprised to hear change of narrator to John Keating and struggled to adjust with some characters well known to listeners having new accents or pitch changes. Narration felt rushed and no tension built in delivery.

Good story, not so good narration

Great story. New narrator was ok, but not awesome. Some characters voices completely and drastically changed, which I was not a fan of.

Not a great narrator

The story is great but unfortunately I found it very difficult to get into because of the narrator. I wish they had continued on with William Zapper as he was excellent!

Bring back William zappa, he's 10x better.

Narrator ruined these books for me, I'll have to buy the hard copies and read these ones.

John Keating is great but totally wrong for this

If you have never listened to a John Flanagan audiobook, this recording work for you, if you are already a fan, it is just a bad fit

John Keating brought the brotherband world to life in our minds. When I listen to this book I feel like I am listening to the characters of the Brotherband. It gets confusing and it just does not work. If another recording is made with William Zappa , I would gladly pay for it again. The story is great so far, I am about 1 hr in, but cannot listen anymore. I am going to read it in text.

No offence to John Keating , his other work is great, but this casting is a failure
