About this listen

Number one New York Times best-selling author Janet Evanovich returns with the launch of a blockbuster new series that blends wild adventure, hugely appealing characters and pitch-perfect humor, proving once again why she’s 'the most popular mystery writer alive' (New York Times).

Lost something? Gabriela Rose knows how to get it back. As a recovery agent, she’s hired by individuals and companies seeking lost treasures, stolen heirlooms or missing assets of any kind. She’s reliable, cool under pressure and well-trained in weapons of all types. But Gabriela’s latest job isn’t for some bamboozled billionaire; it’s for her own family, whose home is going to be wiped off the map if they can’t come up with a lot of money fast.

Inspired by an old family legend, Gabriela sets off for the jungles of Peru in pursuit of the Ring of Solomon and the lost treasure of Cortez. But this particular job comes with a huge problem attached to it - Gabriela’s ex-husband, Rafer. It’s Rafer who has the map that possibly points the way to the treasure and he’s not about to let Gabriela find it without him.

Rafer is as relaxed as Gabriela is driven, and he has a lifetime’s experience getting under his ex-wife’s skin. But when they aren’t bickering about old times, the two make a formidable team, and it’s going to take a team to defeat the vicious drug lord who has also been searching for the fabled ring. A drug lord who doesn’t mind leaving a large body count behind him to get it.

The Recovery Agent marks the start of an irresistible new series that will have you clamouring for more and cheering for the unstoppable Gabriela Rose.

It’s silly but it’s fun and sometimes I just want to escape reality if I have binged too much true crime…so if you ever feel this way I recommend it. Also, this character is very different to Stephanie Plum who is a loveable goof, only succeeding through dumb luck and help from capable friends. This character is actually very accomplished and skilled. I’ll read the next if it becomes a series

Enjoyable fluff

In the past I have thoroughly enjoyed Stephanie Plum’s adventures as a light-hearted, amusing diversion for times when my brain needed a break from “serious” literature. In Stephanie Plum, the stories are a little predictable & have similar story arcs at times but the characters are loveably fun and the predictability is comfortable. So that’s what I was hoping for from this new series.
It seemed promising but..,
I didn’t feel like anything about this new heroine & hero. I didn’t hate them or love them. I was ambivalent really. And the storyline seemed stale. I felt like I had read or viewed many similar stories, told better.
I kept hoping I would get hooked in but I didn’t. :-(
Sorry JE. This was a miss for me.

Disappointed

Been reading Stephanie plum from the start and loved her and all the previous new book series, but hopefully this is the last one of the recovery agent. Nothing new, just Stef in a different role. Full story with ridiculous plot twists and decisions made. Just dull unfortunately. 😩

Very standard book.
