Publisher's Summary

She is holding out for her soul mate; he believes it’s him.

Hattie Green is five and twenty, unmarried, and growing tired of waiting for fate to hand her a soul mate. But when her sister-in-law arrives for a visit with the intent of helping her find a husband by any means necessary, Hattie digs in her heels - for, everyone knows that fate cannot be forced.

The Duke of Bentley has gone to extreme measures to ensure his privacy and seclusion far away from society - the distance is imperative if he wants to keep his family name free of scandal. So, when his lovely neighbor breaks through his carefully constructed barriers and piques his interest with their shared affection for painting, Bentley agrees to give her lessons on the condition that they keep them secret.

As their clandestine meetings grow increasingly more difficult to hide, Bentley realizes that he must make a choice. Is it worth sacrificing his carefully guarded privacy for the woman of his dreams?

Book four in the Ladies of Devon series, The Recluse of Wolfeton House is a clean Regency romance that continues telling the story of the four women who make up a literary society in Devon and form a lasting friendship.

Contains occult elements, ridiculous plot.

The heroine seeks guidance from an occult practitioner. This ridiculous guidance is a continuing plot element throughout the book forming the basis for the heroine's decisions. Perhaps the plot is intended to be ridiculous, perhaps a satire on the genre? Unfortunately I don't find occult influence amusing.

Wonderful Conclusion to this series

I really enjoyed this book and thought the narrator did a great job reading it. I love how Hattie helped Bentley to come out of hiding and to live in the world again. I love how perfect for each other the characters were and I love how they shared a similar passion for painting. This has been a wonderful series to read and to get to know these four friends.

Loved it!

I just discovered this author and I’m so glad I did! This story is so well written and has everything I love in a good book. I’m looking forward to reading all of Kasey Stockton’s historical romances in hopes that they are as sweet as this one. Or, I may listen to the audio as I did this one because the narrator is outstanding! She is one of the best I’ve had the pleasure of hearing. Her performance was flawless!

Charming series

Hattie and Bentley are a delightful couple and I very much enjoyed the journey of their meeting, acquaintanceship, friendship, and ultimately romance… as well as their common interests. I’ve truly enjoyed each book of the series and all of the delightful friendships.

The one irritation for me is the rather odd connection of the fox and the white magic associated with it. It just seemed weirdly childish… But, other than that, the characters are delightful.

I do very much enjoy this narrator in general but, to be honest, I struggled somewhat with Hattie’s voice as it sounded just a bit too nasal and annoying. All of the other voices and narration were very well done.

Sweet romance

I very much loved Bentley. He was our reclusive duke. And while his seclusion doesn’t make as much sense to me I can see why he felt it necessary. Also, he wasn’t as easy to like in the very beginning. He didn’t seem to care if he brushed people off. But he was never really unkind. Hattie on the other hand was a kind soul but I got a poor impression of her in the beginning. She so casually brushed off seeing her sister in law. It felt unkind. And she seemed to be able to skirt telling partial truths. But I loved the story over all. I have read one other in this series. So it was fine as a stand alone. I didn’t need all the others stories. But I can tell it would have given me a bit more insight into the others.

Sweet Regency

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Hattie sounds like a lot of fun. Her "theory" near the end cracked me up.
I enjoyed the narrator for the most part. Hattie sounded a bit...grating at the beginning. It's definitely a story I'll listen to again and recommend it.

Lovely Hattie

What a great continuation of these friends stories. Hattie is truly her own person, full of energy and her own mind. I think so many of us can relate to watching our friends marry and wonder when our time will come. I love her spunk and daring. Bentley has more issues than meet the eye, but it is fun to see his changes. What a fun book.

The narrator did fine, there were a few instances where there was a lot of background noise for just a few seconds. But it was an enjoyable listen.

Loved it!

I love when a series keeps going as if it never ended. This is a superb addition to the Ladies of Devon series! Hattie and her fox have quite the story.

loved this book!

I loved this book! This is my favorite by Stockton so far! The Recluse of Wolfeton House is the fourth in the Ladies of Devon series, but can be read as a stand-alone. I haven't read the previous books in this series and I didn't feel lost at all. I will go back and read the other books though since I enjoyed this one so much. I loved the main characters and loved all the interactions between Hattie and Bentley. I thought the timing and pacing were perfect. I loved the scene when Bentley revealed his secret to Hattie and really enjoyed how everything played out. I highly recommend this to fans of regency romances!

The narrator did a great job!

Perfect ending to a beautiful series!

I think I just may have found my new favorite duo: Kasey Stockton and Victoria Brazier. Kasey's stories are simply beautiful and delightful, while Victoria brings them to life in such a way I'm not sure I could have enjoyed them had I only been reading the story by myself.

I'm reading this series out of order but that didn't lessen my enjoyment of Hattie and the Duke of Bentley's story. I loved all the details, (from her fox hunt ;) to the fact that they're both painters, to their love for animals), each one just added another deeper layer to the story. I really liked Hattie's personality as well as loved her first two encounters with the Duke. Their chemistry was off the charts, and I eagerly looked forward to the next time they'd meet (the painting classes, the barn scenes, they're all just swoon).
Of course, this was all the more enjoyable thanks to the narrator's skills in bringing every single character to life, along with *all* the emotions and nuances (from longing to anguish, hurt, contentment, and so on), she nailed every single moment, having me longing to keep on listening while at the same time not wanting the story to end.

Swoony/Favorite quote: "He didn't want to be her fox. He wanted to be her Bentley."

Overall, even though this is the fourth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone (or out of order, as is my case), and still be enjoyed. Perfect for fans of the author and/or the Sweet Regency Romance, this book will keep you turning the pages (or looking for time to keep on listening) till you reach the much satisfying ending (which includes a fantastic epilogue to the whole series). Completely recommended!! ~ 5 stars

PS: I loved listening to this one after watching the author being interviewed in the SRRF book club and picturing Ben Barnes with silver eyes after she mentioned that's who she pictured for Bentley (*swoon + sigh*).

Hattie finally has her own story! Don't miss it!

The Recluse of Wolfeton House is a fabulous addition to the Ladies of Devon Series. This story had me laughing on more than one occasion, The story is well paced and interesting. I loved the banter between the main characters, the honestly that they shared. One thing that I really enjoy about this series of books is how unique each main characters voice is. The narrator does a great job adding depth to the story with her varying voices and clear storytelling. This story has the ability to stand on it's own but it is delightful to have a peek into the lives of the main characters of the previous three books for the series.
