Publisher's Summary

Former Army Ranger Kris Paronto, a survivor of the 2012 Benghazi siege that was subject of the book and movie 13 Hours, provides powerful motivational tools for surviving and thriving to bring discipline, motivation, success, and peace to listeners' lives.

Thousands of people have heard Kris "Tanto" Paronto speak about his experiences in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. But before he was a security contractor, Tanto was a US Army Ranger from Second Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment. Rangers are trained to lead by being pushed to their physical and mental limits so that they can perform against impossible odds in punishing situations. In The Ranger Way, Tanto shares stories from his training experiences that played a role in his team's heroic response in Benghazi. Being a Ranger is, by design, not for everyone, but anyone can use the expectations and techniques of Ranger culture to achieve personal victory.

In The Ranger Way, Tanto explains the importance of demanding excellence when you commit to improving your life. He shows you how to define your mission, set goals that are in alignment with your values, and develop a battle plan that will maximize your chances of success. You will learn why you should never quit and why that is different from never failing. Tanto uses his experiences in basic and Ranger training to explore how to deal with mistakes and disappointment like a leader, accept responsibility, and turn every obstacle into an opportunity for growth. You will learn why being of service to others and being willing to sacrifice will help you succeed and how the power of humility, strength, faith, and brotherhood will sustain you on the road to accomplishing your mission.

This is my primary genre.
This is one of the absolute best!! Top 5 for sure. It's even more amazing that the author read this. He did a superb job.

A reflection on a way of living, with a story

I'm a big fan of informative/experienced military stories. From watching the "13 hours" and "American Sniper" movies, to listening to audible versions. Was looking for something new to listen to and came across this book and thought it would be a good read and I was right. I always thought about joining the military, but was too discouraged to even think about preparing myself to even attempt to try joining the military. However, the book made me reflect on my discouragement, insecurities, and the other obstacles I faced, will face, or too scared to face. This book gives life advice, keeps it real even if it's the hard truth, and gives you inspiration to get on your feet and "embrace the suck".

Great words to live by!

I have an extraordinary amount of respect for Kris Paronto after listening to this audiobook. I would have liked to hear some more war stories but that's my prerogative and doesn't have any weight on the message or the book as a whole. Definitely worth it.

Inspiring and real

Most civilians have no idea what service in our Armed Forces is like anymore than they know what it’s like to be a police officer. As a former officer, husband, and father of three, I found this book to be exactly what I needed as I struggled with my own desire to join the regiment as an army ranger. Never Quit

Good follow up to the "13 Hours" book.

I didn't know that Kris Paronto was one of the fighters in the "13 Hours" book. This book isn't about the "13 Hours" book, as much as it is about his story, which was interesting. I'm not sure if I would have wanted to listen to this before, or after, I listened to "13 Hours". Kris's reading isn't professional, but was still enjoyable, because he wrote the book.

My Shooting Star in the night giving back purpose

The honor we are taugh and have lived can be taken from us .I built walls out of pride, fear and chemical dependence because I lost my self somewhere while I was hiding myself from it all.... This book has been my personal wake up call.... Thank You so much "Tanto" for writing this and truly being a Brother.... You Are Your Brothers Keeper.....

Honest, slow to the point sometimes but great read

As someone who was already a "fan" of Kris Paronto the first chapter felt a little slow but it soon started to feel right. There are lots of military euphemisms and anecdotes in this book and it might be a little difficult for someone without at least a basic understanding of military life to comprehend. Those of us with military service however will either love it or loathe it - I'm the former. After getting about a third in, it started to meld with me and I genuinely found his wisdom inspirational and it puts my own issues in context really. At the risk of sounding sexist, this book comes across to me as a man's book, quite blunt but with stories of military life seeming quite convoluted at times but getting to a point, all of a sudden, which hits you hard and makes you think "oh, yeah, he's right". As a self help book, it pulls no punches and Kris is remarkably honest about his own failings and shortcomings and, especially as a man who has been through what he did in the early 2010s, deserves serious respect. I loved the book and will most likely re-read but mark certain passages next time. I say it's better suited to men because, unlike some books, this will snack you upside the head and shout at you for your failures but then pat your shoulder and tell you "c'mon, you got this, you can do it". I hope he writes again soon.
