Publisher's Summary

When Madison "Matty" Ward finds himself out of work and without a place to live, his cousin comes through with a job on the Gates cattle ranch. Despite not knowing anything about herding cattle or taking care of horses, Matty does his best to impress the older hunky foreman, Baxter Hollingsworth. Baxter is drawn to the new young hand, but he's deeply closeted, and after an openly gay veterinarian shows he's interested in Matty, Baxter's repressed feelings lead to an explosive encounter. Baxter then withdraws - leaving Matty feeling angry and used - until an accident forces him to confront his fears.

Oh Mr. Colton...

...you are totally and completely under appreciated as an author. His Timber Pack Chronicles series is probably in my top 20 and is one I can re-read and get lost in over and over. It’s my dying wish that at least the first book in that series will pop up on Audible someday. Parker and Colton need to be exposed to the world! I bought The Ranch Foreman today on a whim. I haven’t read the book, but as you can probably tell from the above paragraph, I heart Rob Colton. And I totally heart this audiobook as well! The reasons I had originally steered clear of this one in particular: Unknown-to-me narrator—Max Lehnen did a really great job! The only issue I had was that I thought his voice for Baxter was a little high for being a rough, tough, gruff cowboy. Other than that, I totally approve of his performance. Potential angst from closeted/jerk love interest—I wasn’t as frustrated with this part as I thought I might be. There was a lot of back and forth between Baxter and Matty (will they or won’t they) but it wasn’t exhaustive and I didn’t want to run Baxter over with a Mack truck...just maybe slap him around a little. I thought it was sweet how their “relationship” evolved and I really appreciated that Matty was more than a doormat. Short length—I prefer audiobooks that are 6 hours or less on the whole. However, it takes a good author to make a truly great story from start to finish in 3 hours or less. A lot of them can’t do it and you end up wishing for more, sad you wasted a credit, etc. The truly gifted ones can make it feel like so much more than a novella and The Ranch Foreman is proof of that. You get a little background information, expansive characters, an actual plot that isn’t rushed, some hot cowboy loving, and a HEA in THREE HOURS. Absolute perfection in terms of quality and length. Folks—this is a good one. It can’t outshine The Timber Pack, imo (seriously, check it out if you haven’t already), but it was good for the Rob Colton fix I needed.

A decent story

The book was well written and well narrated, but i just felt it was missing something. It is a pretty short book, but the ending was rather "matter of fact" and fairly surprising.
