Publisher's Summary

This book is about the great moral issues underlying many of the headline-making political controversies of our times. It is not a comforting book but a book about disturbing and dangerous trends. The Quest for Cosmic Justice shows how confused conceptions of justice end up promoting injustice, how confused conceptions of equality end up promoting inequality, and how the tyranny of social visions prevents many people from confronting the actual consequences of their own beliefs and policies. Those consequences include the steady and dangerous erosion of fundamental principles of freedom - amounting to a quiet repeal of the American revolution. The Quest for Cosmic Justice is the summation of a lifetime of study and thought about where we as a society are headed - and why we need to change course before we do irretrievable damage.

Concise & condensed take on Justice

Stimulating and flows well narratively speaking. Quite poignant for current day politics especially given it was before expansion of internet. Occasionally slipped into intellectual laziness by virtue simple dichotomies. Otherwise it articulated meaningful philosophical arguments especially through the concept of tyranny of visions; how liberal elites get fixated on virtuous policies based on moral ideals that when applied can be detrimental to those they feel to be helping by ignoring facts that challenge their ideals.

Should be required reading in high school

Listening in 2023 to the warning through all the lessons given here by Thomas Sowell, and what has been happening over the last 20 years, I think, will people hear and heed this advice. But at the end of the book it said copyright 1999! Students need to understand what is said in this book. We need a course correction.

good lesson for woke and ignorant people .

good presentation of American history, Constitution, free market vs communism and the consequences of choosing one and not the other. It should be compulsory reading in schools.

Can’t go wrong with T Sowell

As usual Thomas Sowell books are enjoyable
While this one didn’t have the richness of examples that his books usually have, it still didn’t fail to deliver
Good light reading!

Thomas Sowell at his best!

I thought Thomas Sowell can't get any better. And then I read this book.
Simply superb.

If you ever feel uneasy at the postulates out the social justice doctrine, if you know it's incorrect but can't find all the right words and reasons, this is the book that reveals and explains all.

If you're a social justice warrior fighting against all the people who are 'racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, islamophobic, oppressive, micro-aggressive, top 1%, and 'worse than Hitler', then this book will explain - with exquisite clarity, infallible reason and unambiguous facts - why it might not in fact be the case.

Bravo, what a brilliant beginning to 2020!
