Epic & Humbling

I adored this book and it’s Narrator, Paul Michael. Looking forward to hearing more books read by him. The Author, Gene Edwards unveiling more revelation on walking a simple and humble life. Profound and undone!

Wow is the least I can say

What a story. For all who are hurting, for all who question God in the Why...this book brings a sense of comfort to know that you are not the first that God hasn’t answered. We may not understand our situations, but we soon will. God has a plan and his ways are greater than our ways. 10/10 recommend to all believers and non believers alike!

Blessed are you.

Wow. This is so eye opening. His ways are not my ways and my ways are not His ways. I want Your will in my life, Lord Jesus!

Riveting from Start to Finish

Most memorable line... "Blessed is he who is not offended in me" because it reminds us so powerfully of God's sovereignty.

Fictional account of God’s servant John the Baptist

Suffering and callings of God are treated in an incomplete way. One cannot assume an entire doctrine on the sovereignty of God and suffering based on a story not referenced by scripture. These ideas also make no distinctions between saved and unsaved. We are called only to suffer persecution for raising up the name and truths of Jesus. The attacks of the devil and consequences of our own sins are not approved by God and He offers to deliver us from them if we turn to Him in faith. Nonetheless those with special callings are told that His grace is sufficient for the consequences of following Him when evil men or demons attack repeatedly. We see Paul attacked but delivered. We see Stephen translated and others endure the same death as Jesus refusing to deny Him in order to be rescued. This doesn’t mean that we will not understand God or His ways or lack comfort. The Holy Spirit himself is our teacher and comforter to believers and lives in us. Jesus said I will not leave you comfort less. We don’t know if John was comforted by The Holy Spirit but it is a more likely assumption than the author’s.

Loved this book. Was a required reading for Seminary and it has given me a while new perspective on the work of John and how it relates to our lives today!

Who really was John the Baptist?

This book takes you on a wonderful journey through a historical fiction look at what the life of John may have been like. But the greater story is one of the unanswered questions believers may have when enduring trials, suffering and seemingly unanswered prayers in this earthly life.

Deeply moving and helpful book

This book was even better than I expected. It is profound, insightful and thought provoking. Surely one of our great challenges as believers is to keep our hearts right before God when we don’t much like the way things are going. Also not something that is often preached on. So pleased it was read by Paul Michael, his voice and delivery are just perfect for Gene Edwards books, a truly gifted narrator.
