Story
Most of us live with the stubborn idea that we'll always have tomorrow to do our most important and valuable work. We fill our days with frantic activity, bouncing from task to task, scrambling to make deadlines and chase the next promotion. But by the end of each day we're often left asking ourselves "did the work I do today really matter?" We feel the ticking of the clock, but we're stuck in first gear, unsure of the path forward and without a road map to guide us.

What do you do when you start to feel a shift and must decide if it’s time to make a change? When it comes to navigating big decisions about when to stay and go, how can we know for sure when the time is right? Though we enter and exit many rooms over the course of our life—jobs, relationships, communities, life stages—knowing how and when it’s time to leave is a decision that rarely has a clear answer.

There are four characters in every story: the victim, the villain, the hero, and the guide. These four characters live inside us. If we play the victim, we’re doomed to fail. If we play the villain, we will not create genuine bonds. But if we play the hero or guide, our lives will flourish. The hard part is being self-aware enough to know which character we are playing. In this book, Donald will use his own experiences to help you recognize if the character you are currently surfacing is helping you experience a life of meaning.

Present moment awareness is an essential ingredient in life if one expects to experience any degree of authentic peace and contentment. The Western mind is always restless, never content with the moment.

Perhaps you want to be nicer to yourself but don’t really know how to get there. Or maybe you’re someone who assumes self-criticism is a permanent part of your personality. Rest assured you’re not alone. Millions of people struggle with the toll that excessive self-criticism takes on their minds, energy levels, jobs, and relationships. And problems with self-talk vary dramatically from one person to the next: they can appear as mild but persistent inner criticism, full-blown self-loathing, or the pain of internalized oppression or abuse.

A few years ago, Kris Carr’s world was falling apart. Her father was dying, she had to pivot her business because of the pandemic, and she was on the verge of reaching her twenty-year milestone of living with an incurable Stage IV cancer diagnosis. While sitting in a CVS parking lot, she broke down, finally allowing herself to feel the massive stress and sadness she had been suppressing in order to seem strong for those around her, and for herself. And then she asked herself, “If embracing my intense emotions helped me feel even the slightest bit better, why was I so determined to avoid them?"

This is great.
Thank you so much Allison. This book is like a bauble to me. It’s simply a recurrent read, it’s encyclopaedic and a reference guide every now and then. The depth to which you go into the stories, the expression, and your tone of voice is simply great. The details and connections you make in your stories and language is really good.
I benefitted hugely from this. You write the book as if you knew me or had me in mind at time of writing. Very original and genuine.
I almost dropped this audio book in the first 5min when I started reading it. I had judged the book by its cover :). I taught it was one of those boring books that really don’t say much or have much of depth. The tone of voice was a bit awkward for me and not soothing at all. I don’t know if it’s the voice and tone of your read or the contents itself that makes this material so good to read. The content is excellent and the tone of voice is Great. Lol, Indestructible is already on my listening list. Thank God you mentioned it here, I wouldn’t have known about it probably otherwise.
Keep it up. You are God sent.
Thanks
