Editorial reviews
When Robert, Cyril, Anthea, and Jane discover that their new carpet is a magic one, they are thrilled-even though some of their wishes don't work out the way they intend; with the carpet comes a phoenix, who comes to their rescue more than once. Anna Bentinck's narration is slow and articulate, and she distinguishes the children's voices and most of the minor characters as well. The voice of the phoenix is exceptionally well done slow, proper, and a little prim; you can almost see her spreading her feathers and regally acknowledging the children as her subjects.
Publisher's Summary
The Phoenix and the Carpet is the sequel to Five Children and It and continues the adventures of Robert, Cyril, Anthea, Jane, and their baby brother, Lamb. They encounter a phoenix wrapped in a magic carpet, and thus begins a series of adventures: Captivating, extraordinary, and fun, even if some of them go horribly wrong.
