'A gritty, heart-pounding tale of betrayal and bloody vengeance' John Gwynne

When the task is a killing, be quick and make sure of it.

Torment is an indulgence.

Save it for only the most deserving.

Born in the troubled kingdom of Albermaine, Alwyn Scribe is raised as an outlaw. Quick of wit and deft with a blade, Alwyn is content with the comradeship of his fellow thieves. Yet an act of betrayal sets him on a new path of blood and vengeance, which leads him to a soldier's life in the king's army.

Fighting under the command of Lady Evadine Courlain, a noblewoman beset by visions of a demonic apocalypse, Alwyn must survive war and the deadly intrigues of the nobility if he hopes to claim his vengeance. But as human and arcane forces gather to oppose Evadine's rise, Alwyn faces a choice: can he be a warrior, or will he always be an outlaw?

The Pariah begins a dark and bloody new fantasy epic from New York Times bestseller Anthony Ryan, whose books have sold more than a million copies worldwide.

A gritty, heart-pounding tale of betrayal and bloody vengeance. I loved every single word
This is Anthony Ryan's best book yet
A richly-detailed world with well-developed characters, a complex plot, mysteries, prophecy, viscerally-felt action and a protagonist to root for
Gritty and well-drawn, this makes a rich treat for George R.R. Martin fans
The Pariah is Anthony Ryan at his best. A fast-paced, brutal fantasy novel with larger than life characters and a plot full of intrigue and suspense. With bloody twists and turns aplenty, this novel is destined to become a favourite of the grimdark community
Fantastic writing, an amazing world, a plot that won't quit, and an unforgettable character, The Pariah starts out a new fantasy series that is sure to become one of his best, foraging new ground and, at the same time, reminding readers why Anthony Ryan is one of the best epic fantasy authors out there

What I thought started out as a by the numbers grimdark tale, something I was convinced I would think nothing of, slowly turned into a rich and immersive tail full of colourfully twisted but endearing characters. It has the edge of an unorthodox tale of revenge that will leave you pleased with the results. Above all I found myself unknowingly hypnotised by the graphic and detailed battle sequences. Whilst not for the faint of heart, the violence, military tactics and knowledge of weaponry has been researched diligently. For readers with an eye for detail and appreciation for the hardships of a medieval setting, this is indeed the book for you
