About this listen

Jojo Harvey is a literary agent whose star is on the rise. In love with both her married boss and her burgeoning career, not much distracts her. Until she finds herself representing two women who used to be best friends. Used to be. One of them, Gemma, has suddenly found herself from a broken home at the age of 32. Meanwhile, Lily, the woman Gemma has always blamed for stealing her one chance of happiness, is enjoying the overnight success of her debut novel. Set in the world of publishing, The Other Side of the Story is about love, loyalty, glass ceilings and survival tactics - and what to do when you get your chance for revenge.©2004 W F Howes Ltd (P)2004 W F Howes Ltd Contemporary Contemporary Romance Family Life Fiction Genre Fiction Literary Fiction Literature & Fiction Romance Romantic Comedy Women's Fiction Funny Comedy Feel-Good

For some reason, I had about three false starts with this book. I'd get a couple of chapters in, and give up. But I'm glad that I tried that one last time instead of hitting the "refund" button.
By far, my favourite character is Gemma. She is hilarious and Gerri Halligan delivers her perfectly. Lily (Gemma's mortal enemy) had a different perspective, interesting and sometimes amusing story however her character was a little flakey and a bit too wishy washy for me to warm to. That said, it was a good extension to, and additional layer to Gemma's story.
Whilst I liked JoJo's strong, kind character, Gerri does not do American accents well, and I eventually realised that this was what was causing me to struggle completing the book.
Once I figured this out, I was able to actively overcome not liking the accent, and enjoy the story.
Gerri Halligan also does a great job of representing male characters as lovable but bumbling "eejits" and Gemma's dad, Owen and Anton all made me laugh out in many parts.
Do yourself a favour and listen to this book.

A nice light story. Easy listening.
A bit predictable but not annoyingly so.
Not insightful and no characters I wanted to be or meet but quite fun all the same.

Pleasant story

Once again, truly lovely story. I enjoyed the characters and their interactions with all family members and life. Very well written I fully recommend is a great listen.

I found this quite disappointing and very unlike all the other Marian Keys books I've read. The majority of the first third of the book was just emails between people being read, including the "to" and "from" email addresses every single time and it was really annoying. There were three separate storylines which did intersect but only barely so it was quite an uncohesive book.

Not as good as the author's other books

The author never disappoints in her storytelling and the performance is just amazing as always… look forward to the next book 🙏
