Great story !

Kept me interested from beginning to end. Listened to it in one day. All the characters & their stories are everyday people with very believable down to earth lives.
The author has managed to keep the story flowing & interesting at all times. No boring dialogue where you feel like you need to skip a few pages. Overall a great little read. I will definitely listen to this again. I should mention I do come from Newcastle & enjoyed the familiarity of the setting. I’ll be looking for more stories by this author. 10/10

Comes together well

It took a while to unite the two stories. Interesting, but let me down towards the end. She was more a psychopath than a loving mother. Would have served her well to do her research at the beginning of her troubles. She wasn't that clever.

empathetic characters without the sap

After listening to a few books, sadly in a row, that have disappointed either because of shallow storyline or gushing performances, this was a whole story told in a practical way, without unnecessary sentimentality despite the story's sadness.

Missing backpacker and $1m reward...

Set in primarily in Central NSW, Australia, Tara - an Irish backpacker - accepts a job as a au pair to a couple who have a child with diverse needs (ADHD). Mia is a controlling and manipulative wife and mother, and Ryan is her adoring but simpering husband. Tara is ill equipped to manage the role of carer, but Mia is desperate to get back into her stalled career, and so they try to make it work.

In Sydney, Beth is a single mother, who has survived a controlling manipulative ex-husband and signed away all financial claims on him in exchange for sole custody of her young daughter. She struggles to make ends meet and becomes a target for some senseless and petty crimes that just keep unfairly knocking her down.

When Tara disappears it is assumed that she drowned after partying hard, and then going swimming in the ocean. However there is no body, just a pile of clothes on the beach. It's initially written off as a tragic accident, but a mother - back in Ireland - refuses to give up on finding her daughter.

The paths of the stories are expertly intertwined as the plot reveals itself at just the right pace,

The narration was excellent, and I really enjoyed this and will definitely be seeking more from B.M. Carroll.
