Disappointing, poor quality plot and detail

Orbs

Book 1 is very disappointing. Awful! It lacks detail in both technical and chemical assessment and descriptions. It uses overly casual and slang language for the AI. Almost undermines the AI as an intelligent system. Lack of analyses and technical intelligence provided. The AI would not use words like “Should” or “something like” or “state of the Art”. It would provide specific metrics and analytical data. The plot is flawed. Why has the team not trained for months before entering. Learned all the systems and practiced emergency routines. You certainly don’t send a ship to sea with a crew who do not know each other and have not trained for every eventuality. Let alone a space ship or mars mission or biodome. I mean how did Timothy even get through the psych evaluations. This seems like a school grade 12 attempt at science fiction. If NTC knew the invasion was possible why is there a negligent level and lack of planning and communication. Why only provide a message to the biodome as a last minute, which is cut off half way through. Any agency would have several levels of contingency planning. The lead character, Sophie, for a highly experienced particle physicist science analyst who has clearly demonstrated her high competence in a very competitive industry is portrayed as slow to think and does not show genuine leadership. The orator is annoying and portrays her voice as a scared, docile and meek character. She shows Little security and contingency planning. Someone like that would have standard protocols and lists that would eliminate all unknowns and attempt to provide solutions with contingencies based on probability of outcomes. I am certainly no writer but as a reader I am left questioning too much. Lack of detail, holes in the plot, time line issues. Too many issues! Like, why would the aliens knowing they are vulnerable after feeding not post sentries for those who have fed. I also could not get a scale of them: large, small, fit in ducting with long legs, fast but slow. This is no Andy Wier level of technical writing mastery. Unfortunately I purchased the Orbs Series but I just can’t go on. I am beyond trying to like the books.

frustrating.

I really wanted to get into this series but I found the reactions of the characters inconsistent and unbelievable.
with weird inconsistencies in the science it spoiled what could have been a great story.
sorry.

Orbs review

The story was awesome but the narrator was terrible. He/she sounded thoroughly bored in the whole story.

Surpassed my expectations!!

Having loved two series that this author wrote, I was both eager and hesitant to dive into this series, eager because his writing is amazing and hesitant because this was one of the first series he wrote and I didn't want to be disappointed because his other series are phenomenal. I need not have worried though because I ended up loving this series.

Plot wise this was incredibly fast paced and exciting. The action starts right away and it's breakneck speed from there. I had to take several deep breaths when I finished this because it took my breath away with it's relentless pace. Absolutely non stop!!! It's not just the action that was non stop, it was also the emotions I had while reading this. I think I went through them all!! When the gang leave the biosphere, they come out to a world that's changed forever. I loved how the author portrayed the aliens and found myself quite frightened by them, especially with what they were doing! He has created a unique spin on the classic invading alien story and I raced through this to see how it'd end.

One thing I've seen with this author, is his amazing ability to write great and memorable characters. This one is no different!! Sophie is one strong, fierce main character and I was rooting for her the whole way through. She is smart, confident, headstrong, and relatable. Each of the characters are well written and developed and I pretty much liked them all!!

In all, this surpassed my expectations. I wasn't sure what to expect from it, but what I got was an exciting, edge of your seat read. It drew me in and I devoured it!! It's movie worthy good! If you're on the fence about reading this, don't be. Give it a go... you might be pleasantly surprised! It's fiction, it's there to be enjoyed :)

White Sands and Red Sands are short stories.... In White Sands, we see brothers Jeff and David, along with their stepmom, heading to see their dad, Michael. From there we see what happens them from the moment the Orbs appear. In Red Sands, we see more of the boys and also get a look at Dr. Hoffman and his escape ship.

Both of the short stories were very much needed, in order to answer some unanswered questions from the main books. I loved seeing the boys and getting to know what exactly happened them. I was also glad to read about Dr Hoffman, though I'm still not sure what to think of him!!

Well written and developed, these shorts, and indeed the whole series is a must read!!

Bronson Pinchot is one of my favourite narrators. He has a staggering array of tones and voices and always brings a story to life with his inflections. Loved his narration of these!

Post apocalyptic fiction at its best!

This character-driven, alien invasion thriller series was my first introduction to this author's writing and I loved it. The layers of conflict and tension do not let up. It is fast-paced and filled with nail-biting suspense. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Great.  I was very taken aback by the ending.  It was not what I thought.  You will love this book especially if you like apocalypse type books.

Orbs.

This is one of the best alien invasion stories I’ve listened to in a long time. The aliens are truly unique and terrifying. The human survivors of Invasion Day are very interesting and well written. And three books for one credit...what are waiting for? 10/10

Great series for sci fi fans!

I have listened to other book series by this author. This was not my favorite series of his and that is only because I enjoyed his other books much more. From a sci fi alien perspective though , this book series was great! I do think fans of aliens sci fi will enjoy it. There was not a lot of military operations lingo in the books. I definitely recommend it to sci fi fans.

Pudding thoroughly over egged!

Too many stereotypes, so many over worked cliffhangers that boredom sets in detracting from what could have been an interesting story.
