About this listen

Few outside the security services have heard of 14 Company. As deadly as the SAS yet more secret, the operators of 14 Company are Britain's most effective weapon against international terrorism. For every bomb that goes off, 14 Company prevent 12. The selection process is the most physically, intellectually, and emotionally demanding anywhere in the world. This is the true story of one operator and of some of the most hair-raising military operations ever conducted on the streets of Britain.

Not bad, choice of narrator seems odd. Some funny moments in the book. But very little action and 2/3 of the he book is just about the training.

The level of detail is ridiculous and not required. Takes far too long to get to the point.

Unnecessary waffle

Some good parts to the story, but packed out with an almost overwhelming amount of minor detail. Additionally the narrator's pronunciation is at times questionable.

Mostly good, but not great.

As the title says a really good, well written book sadly spoiled by the choice of narrator. The author being a university educated officer would no doubt have a posh accent not a regional one like the narrator and not his fault but clearly he was unfamiliar with lots of the military jargon being used. A great story but I found myself constantly distracted by his mistakes and mispronunciation. If you can put this to one side please do because it’s a good read.

Spoiled by the choice of narrator

I’m a bit perplexed at the choice of narrator. I think he American? The accent had tones of Australian, the Welsh and regional accents were a fail. Some of the pronunciation was way off. N A A F I, cross mag al en, were a couple that particularly stood out. The story is a great invite into the troubles.

Narrator

Narrator creates vibe of somewhere in the 40’s or 50’s and makes you feel like you’re listening to Thomas the Tank Engine narrated by an American trying to sound like Michael Cain. Not sure I can get through to the end.

Awful, off-putting Narration

despite being an interesting book, the author has down played how brutal and savage the Brittish goverment was to the Irish people. he states in the book that no brittish subject was involved in malpractice during their service to the crown. in today's world with instant access to information, we can devise that thus was not true. of course the book was published in 1996, so I assume it would be hard for the MOD back then to allow confirmation of malpractice. Either way, not quite a true representation of what happned. interesting read none the less.
