Enjoyable read bought on a whim

I really enjoyed the book as a whole and found the different voice actors a useful way of distinguishing all the story lines. I thought this was a really enjoyable read for someone wanting something a bit different but not too heavy. I would probably recommend this book to female listeners more than males ones. I would absolutely try the author and narrators again!

Interesting concept

It was an interesting concept. A bit far fetched for my liking. The narrator for "Nick" was not good to listen to....his voice was very forced and fake and I really didn't enjoy it.

Enjoyable and interesting

Interesting concept; very funny lines; a little predictable at times but also surprising moments. Personally, I don't like multiple stories weaved into one book and shifting back and forth from one set of characters to another unrelated one ; but that's a personal preference. I still enjoyed the book and would recommend it

Very unique story. Well read!

I'm not in love with this book but I'm somewhere in between love and really like. I finished it quickly, which is always a good sign. The characters were lovely, lots of twists and extremely well-read!

A truly enjoyable experience.

The story was great. The narration was exceptional. I never thought I'd have a "favourite narrator" but Jot Davies is fast becoming just that.

A nice read

Great concept that really makes you think. Would I want to know? It’s a great read. And it faces you with a curiosity ( curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back) would I do it? Yes I would.
Let’s face it 99% of us would want to know our soul mate...

Could have been so much more...

This was a fairly decent listen, but left me feeling it could have been so much more, both from a literary and narration point of view.
They story's concept was interesting but I thought the execution of the story was a bit hit and miss. Some parts of the book left me gagging for the next chapter in that character's story while others left me cringing, and fast-forwarding to get past it.
Some of the narration I feel was miscast and over read in some parts but, in the main, was OK.
Not Booker prize material, but wouldn't be the first book in the fire on The Day after Tomorrow.

Don't look for love on the internet

This was excellent delving into people's vanities and insecurities using web technology to find 'the one'. Excellent narration and story lines but suspend belief

Promised a lot more

I downloaded this based on the good reviews and the interesting idea of there being a DNA match out there for all of us.

Sadly, what could have been a great read was mediocre at best with weak characters and irritatingly abrupt narration from the guy reading Nick.

I felt it was all a bit too chick lit for my taste but, I did appreciate the slight twists to the ends of each characters tales. Just a shame the rest of the book was so lightweight.

Sorry but not one I’d recommend.

not much to say

it was OK, honestly it was a bit basic frankly. I thought it might have given an interesting insight into modern relationships with a bit of a twilight zone to it. but it was just drivel

Missed opurtunity

It’s unfortunate that such a fantastic idea was dealt with in a soap type way. Very light and predictable .Also the male narrator spoke like he was speaking to a class of non English speaking 7 year olds very irritating!

Great Concept - if a bit chick lit

Like another reviewer I found this a strange mix. The concept of there being 'the one' out there for everyone is intriguing and believable in a world now obsessed by online dating. This lends itself very well to a series of different storylines and I think that this was very well accomplished. The various stories were different and interesting and I really did find myself avidly listening whenever I could. I too also winced at some of the dialogue and characterisations - as I feel so often when read/listening many of the women portrayed feel like an entirely different species to myself and women I know (thank goodness). I felt a lot more could have been made of the chaos such a capability would have to those already married - and I did find the end a bit obvious. Having said that, despite its flaws this is well worth a listen.

Bloody brilliant!

Just imagine if you could take a simple DNA test and possibly be matched with your soul mate with a 99.99% accuracy. It is really easy to imagine something like this happening in the near future. But it throws up so many questions. What if you were married and not to your soul mate? What if you sent in your swab and don’t get matched because your soul mate hasn’t yet registered? What if you believe you are heterosexual and get matched with someone of the same sex? Is this a case of beware what you wish for?

The book follows five couples who are matched, but this is definitely not a love story. And one of the couples is a serial killer and a policewoman! At first I found it hard to get my head round all the different characters but once I did I thought it was brilliantly original. Just when you thought you knew where each of the stories was going John Marrs dropped a bombshell at the end of the chapter. And the twists never stopped.

The book was read by multiple narrators, making it easy to imagine which character is speaking.

I read recently that this book is being made into a Netflix series and I think it will transfer well to the small screen.
Well done Mr Marrs. You are fast becoming one of my favourite authors!
