I was the girl who survived the Nothing Man. Now I am the woman who is going to catch him....

You've just read the opening lines of The Nothing Man, the true-crime memoir Eve Black has written about her obsessive search for the man who killed her family nearly two decades ago.

Supermarket security guard Jim Doyle is reading it too, and with each turn of the page his rage grows. Because Jim was - is - the Nothing Man.

The more Jim reads, the more he realises how dangerously close Eve is getting to the truth. He knows she won't give up until she finds him. He has no choice but to stop her first....

a brilliant gripping novel in a 'True crime" format. It is also very well narrated. This is an exceptional work and I look forward to her other works.

Awful female narration which ruined a good book

A question (not really)....why chose someone who has a sing-a-along voice to narrate a murder mystery?! I reaeaaaally struggled to listen to the story while her voice was going up and down all the time, I thought of returning the book but the story does get you hooked from the start. I definitely will be looking for more of Catherine R Howards books.

great story - slightly irritating narration

Quite a different take on a crime thriller, I enjoyed getting it direct from the killers perspective 20 years on. Probably better to read the physical copy than listen, however I thoroughly enjoyed it. The female narrator sing song voice is a little off-putting.

Blew me away!

This book blew me away! The Nothing Man is a book within a book. As a 12 year old Eve Black survived an attack by the Nothing Man in which her parents and sister all died. Now an adult she decides to write a book in the hope that someone's memory might be jogged and the Nothing Man might finally be caught. We get to read Eve's book, along with her thoughts, and her narrative alternates with that of the Nothing Man, whose identity is revealed right at the start. The way the story unfolds is pure genius. I was totally hooked, so far on the edge of my seat that I almost fell off, and couldn't stop listening. The characters were all memorable with realistic back stories. Catherine Ryan Howard is a superb story teller and I can't wait to read her back catalogue. The two narrators did an excellent job, and their voices were perfect for the characters they portrayed so well, This book will definitely be in my top ten books read this year!

A book within a book

What a great read and such a fresh concept. The narrators really brought the characters to life, and as the story is set in Ireland the accents were spot on. Eve was the only member of her family to survive The Nothing Man serial killer. Having grown up she writes a novel about her experiences and the killer as a means of trying to solve the mystery of who he is. Excerpts from her book form part of the storyline and I really enjoyed this format. I definite ‘keep you up all night book’! Highly recommended.

Excellent all round.

This is an excellent book-gripping and so well conceived. I have been waiting for a book like this for a ling time. For once here is a story where people behave realistically and as you might. There is no stereotypical ‘woman screaming and do what no woman ever would’. The characters are all so well rounded and richly painted, a really study of the human condition-which lends its self to natural drama-I gasped out loud at one point-to my mind you are in for a treat.
