Publisher's Summary

Grace Tame has never walked on middle ground.

From a young age, her life was defined by uncertainty - by trauma and strength, sadness and hope, terrible lows and wondrous highs. As a teenager she found the courage to speak up after experiencing awful and ongoing child sexual abuse. This fight to find her voice would not be her last.

In 2021 Grace stepped squarely into the public eye as the Australian of the Year, and was the catalyst for a tidal wave of conversation and action. Australians from all walks of life were inspired and moved by her fire and passion. She was using her voice and encouraging others to use theirs too.

The Ninth Life of a Diamond Miner is Grace's story, in Grace's words, on Grace's terms. Here she returns, again and again, to the things that have driven and saved her: love, connection and radical, unwavering honesty. Like Grace, this book is sharply intelligent, deeply felt, wildly unexpected and often blisteringly funny. And, as with all her work, it offers a constructive and optimistic vision for a better future for all of us.

Critic Reviews

'Expect The Ninth Life of a Diamond Miner to feature prominently in the next round of book award prize lists. A significant doer has emerged in this memoir as a significant writer too.' Sydney Morning Herald/The Age

'The Ninth Life of a Diamond Miner, an honest, raw and at times harrowing piece of writing, far from being a one-note memoir, also sparkles with wit and artless joy.' The Australian

'Grace Tame's The Ninth Life of a Diamond Miner shifts expectations . . . The book is loosely chronological, but mostly follows the rhythms and shapes of Tame's thoughts. It is held together by a strong, irreverent, irrepressible voice.' The Conversation

I believe this book needs to be read, not listened.

For a first novel, it's a decent try. Unfortunately, Grace's narration is monotonous and has a repetitive action writing style. I get it, as I'm autistic myself. However, it makes it hard to listen to. In my opinion, there is too much detail about people that may be important to Grace, but as the audience its a bit like ???????
I couldn't make it through the entire book. Buy the paperback as I believe it would be better read.

Raw and honest

I binged this book. It’s easy to listen to, with light bits that break up the at times graphic raw pieces. I really appreciated her openness around life post trauma, drugs, alcohol, falling in love, and finding her feet. It’s very relatable

Speechless

I don’t have words for how great this book is. The emotion from Grace as she read this had me in tears throughout the book. It was one I couldn’t put away.

A Must Read, I couldn’t stop until the end

Undeniably a great memoir for such a true survivor & ambassador for the abuse of children. The Grace Tame Foundation will ensure we eradicate as much of these atrocities as possible. Well spoken Grace, you a true diamond as well!

Wow

Confronting, intense, powerful and (at times) funny. This is an incredibly insightful book, Grace offers so many truth bombs that really stopped me in my tracks. I really enjoyed Grace’s narration, it really helped to convey the gravity of her words and reinforce that this is a real person’s experiences.

Excellent Book!

Thanks to Grace for sharing her truth and telling her story. The ferocity and true grit was astounding and incredible. It was an honour to hear Grace’s experience of her own story, and to hear it in her own words. What a powerful piece.
